Pros
- Incredibly stable and supportive
- Some of the best spikeless traction around
- Looks good for a sportier golf shoe
Cons
- I wish the ride had a touch more give
- Pretty expensive

As the brainchild of Tiger Woods, Sun Day Red doesn't need a whole lot of help selling its products, however with their luxury air and premium price tag, plenty are often left wondering if the performance of the brand's products really matches the hype.

No more so is this the case than with the Sun Day Red's flagship launch for the year so far. Named the Presidio, it's the first high-performance spikeless golf shoe from the brand, filling the gap between the traditionally-styled Cypress range and the Osprey golf sneaker and promising some of the best grip and stability to be found in a spikeless shoe.

The Presidio could end up being a rather important shoe for the brand as it expands its stable out to appeal to a wider range of golfers. With its sporty silhouetter it's far better geared to golfers who want to strike a more casual look on the course, while the spikeless outsole adds a degree of off-course wearability that shoes like the Cypress just don't have.

And at £175, while still premium, they're also cheaper than the Cypresses and competitively priced against Sun Day Red's rivals in the premium footwear sector (both the G/FORE MG4+ and ECCO Biom C5 will cost you more).

But does the performance match the big claims? We took them out on the course to find out.

Looks and features

The Presidios sit very firmly in the athletic golf shoe category, offering a sportier silhouette than something like the Cypress without being overly casual in the manner of the Osprey golf sneaker. They're modern golf shoes, quite simply, with a training shoe-style shape, a clean, waterproof reinforced mesh upper, a sporty midsole and an aggressive spikeless outsole that delivers performance without making the shoes unwearable in the clubhouse.

Put simply, they're more than wearable on and off the course, but from a style perspective, you probably wouldn't pair them with a casual outfit. Even so, we think they look pretty good compared to their competitors in this category. Tiger's influence is clear to see with the Presidio, with its large stable platform and full-length outsole giving it the look of a cross-training shoe. It's as easy to imagine the Big Cat hitting the gym in these as it is him playing a casual round in them.

Being a more tech-focused shoe, the Presidio delivers the biggest list of features Sun Day Red has ever put into a spikeless shoe. The Presidio's outsole is aggressive by the standards of a spikeless shoe, running flat the entire length of the shoe in the manner of a weightlifting shoe for enhanced power transfer through the ground and multi-directional lug placements for superior traction. On top of this sits a bed of Sun Day Red's proprietary EVA-based foam, which is braced by a lateral TPU shank that provides added torsional stability around the midfoot.

The result is designed rock-solid and incredibly stable for just about any player, without sacrificing too much in the way of comfort or long-term wearability, while the sportier upper, made from a reinforced mesh rather than a synthetic or real leather, keeps the package fairly light.

Performance

The Presidio, outside of the Cypress series, is designed to be Sun Day Red's most high-performance shoe model, and it shows the second you take them out on the course. Designed to keep you low to the ground and give you a wide base on which to swing, they're exceptionally stable with excellent traction, and we had zero issues with slipping while playing in muddy March conditions after a rain-heavy British winter.

The ride underfoot is relatively stable and firm, which just a hint of give from the midsole foam that keeps things comfortable enough to carry you through a walking round. It's not particularly plush or bouncy underfoot, and the midsole itself isn't very thick either, so we wouldn't recommend this if you're after a shoe with tons of cushioning. But if you want to feel low down to the ground and connected while still experiencing enough comfort to walk 18 holes, these hit the sweet spot pretty well.

Where the Sun Day Red really shines is in its stability. The underfoot foam, while a touch firmer than others, works beautifully with the full-length outsole and TPU shank to keep you feeling locked in all the way through the swing. The Presidio has a fairly narrow fit as a result, and it's possible you might have to go up half a size in these if you have a wide foot, but the tradeoff is that it provides you a platform on which to swing that's nearly unrivalled in a spikeless shoe.

Made as they are with an emphasis on luxury, craftsmanship and innovation, Sun Day Red's products always represent more of an investment than picking up a pair of shoes from a brand like Nike or adidas. Priced at £175, it's more fair to compare the Sun Day Reds to shoes from a premium brand like G/FORE or Ecco, and we feel they stack up well against any competitor in this more premium category.

While we feel both G/FORE and ECCO's shoes have the Presidio bested in terms of providing a more dynamic ride underfoot, the Sun Day Reds provide an incredibly smooth, stable golfing experience, with tons of traction from the outsole and lockdown that really keeps you feeling grounded throughout the swing. I felt like I could play my absolute best golf wearing these without worrying for a millisecond about losing connection with the ground.

Despite the sportier finish and emphasis on performance materials, Sun Day Reds feel as well-made and premium as any of the other products from the Sun Day Red, and are once against testament to the brand's growing rep for producing genuinely well-engineered products. This, combined with the fact that they provide one of the most stable platforms we've ever tested on a spikeless shoe, makes them a must-try if you're after a more premium shoe with sporty DNA for 2026.
