Your guide to the best spikeless golf shoes of 2025 and all the things you need to know ahead of splashing the cash on your newest pair of footwear.

In 2025, we're a long way removed from the days when spiked golf shoes were the primary choice for golfers at every level. Today, players from the high-handicap level all the way through to seasoned tour pros regularly game spikeless shoes, proving just how far technology has come in recent times.
Spikeless golf shoes have come to inhabit just about every aesthetic corner of the market, with traditional-looking shoes on offer, retro sneaker reworks and those with a more all-round sporty look.
But which spikeless shoes combine form, function and—importantly for a spikeless shoe test—traction most effectively. To find out, we've tested shoes of every style from all the biggest brands in the game, starting with our outright favourite golf shoe of the year so far.

ECCO's BIOM H5 isn't just the best spikeless golf shoe we've tested this year: it's the best golf shoe of 2025 so far, period.
The BIOM H5 finished first in our Equipment Editor's 2025 golf shoe bracket, with the combination of grip, sleek aesthetics and comfort simply putting it a cut above the rest.
The trainer-like silhouette is sporty enough to provide appeal to the modern golfer, but still clean and classy in the way we've become accustomed to seeing from the Danish brand.
Performance-wise, they're the complete package. The inner liner helps your foot feel almost as if it's become one with the shoe, while the FLUIDFORM Direct Comfort foam provides the comfort of a running shoe, while remaining stable enough to provide a good deal of feedback underfoot.
The aggressive lightning-shaped ridges on the outsole provide some of the best traction we've experienced from a spikeless golf shoe in some time.

Reebok Nano Golf
Price: $130
Key Features:
- Responsive Floatride performance provides long-term comfort
- Raised lugs keep you grounded and give you a solid base
- TPU Torsion Shank keeps you stable as you swing
Pros:
- Trainer like comfort
- High-energy, bouncy cushioning
- Snug, comfortable fit
- Good grip
Cons:
- Not a lot of feedback underfoot
- Soft-knit material will get dirty
Reebok's first proper foray into the golf footwear market, and now the trusted shoe of Bryson DeChambeau, draws on the DNA of the Nano: a shoe originally designed, perhaps fittingly given Bryson's love of the gym, for weightlifting.
And ostensibly, the platform provided by the Nano should be excellent for golf. It has a broad, stable base, a torsion shank to help improve stability when trying to hit it as hard as Bryson does, and enough of Reebok's running-derived Floatride foam to keep you comfortable without sacrificing stability.
Overall, GolfMagic Equipment Editor Tom found this to make for a surprisingly sporty, effective package—albeit one with some drawbacks.
While the cushioning and comfort was top-rate, the foam underfoot and aggressive lugging on the outsole masked the feel of the greens somewhat, affecting feedback on reads when the slopes were marginal.
Practicality may be an issue as well. The knitted Flexweave upper is breathable and treated with a waterproof coating, but likely won't keep all the mud and water at bay if playing on a rainy day. We'd suggest investing in a darker colourway, as they're prone to getting dirty.

adidas Codechoas 25
Price: £119
Key Features:
- Lightstrike + BOOST midsole: delivers a combination of comfort and stability
- Twist Grip outsole: provides spikeless traction
- Multi-layered waterproof knit upper: looks great and keeps your feet protected from the elements
Pros:
- Excellent traction for a spikeless golf shoe
- Mesh upper is one of the most unique designs of the year
- Lightstrike midsole provides fantastic stability
Cons:
- We experienced quite a bit of discomfort in the heel
- Firmer underfoot than we were expecting
One of the most unique looking shoes of 2025, the adidas Codechaos 25s feature a translucent upper outer layer that gives you a peak into what can best be described as a topographical map of the shoes underneath. This fascinating design choice could be slightly Marmite for some golfers, but it certainly sets the shoes apart from the competition.
The spikeless outsole features a full coverage of deep nubs that deliver excellent traction, and thanks to the mixed Boost and Lightstrike midsole, the shoes find the right balance of stability and cushioning.
Fitting true to size, these shoes are one of more athletic spikeless options on this list, and although we did notice some discomfort in the heel, the overall experience during testing was a positive one.
So, if you're looking to to embrace a more unique style on the course this year the 25s would be an excellent place to start.

- Torsion stability bar: designed to provide a stable base for every swing
Pros:
- Ideal combination of modern and traditional styling
- Supple leather moulded to our feet quickly
- Boost midsole provided excellent comfort
Cons:
- Thin laces came undone quite easily
Adidas' Modern Classic 80 merges performance technology with traditional materials, resulting in a spikeless shoe offering exceptional comfort, stability, and versatility. Unlike the CodeChaos model, the MC80 boasts a more traditional silhouette, initially released through an adidas X Bogey Boys collaboration and now a staple in the brand's footwear range.
The MC80 combines modern and traditional design aesthetics, featuring a full-grain leather upper that conforms naturally to the foot, providing both comfort and a pleasing appearance. The shoes strike a balance between old-school styling and modern versatility, with an eye-catching black panel offering contrast and traditional detailing.

The boost technology enhances comfort with a spring-like feel, accommodating wide feet without discomfort. In wet conditions, the TPU nubs on the sole provide traction and stability, despite the lack of spikes.
The only notable drawback is the thin and easily undone laces, suggesting a potential need for replacement with thicker ones. Overall, the MC80 impresses with its smart, comfortable, and affordable design, making it a favourite in the market. If you're seeking an upgrade for this season, the adidas MC80 is a solid choice for both style and performance.

- Soft leather and performance-coated mesh construction:
- OrthoLite EcoPlush Fit-Bed: ensures all-day underfoot comfort

Pros:
- SofFoam midsole is one of the most comfortable on the market

J. Lindeberg Vent 500
Price: £199
Key Features:
- Ortholite insole: provides a cushioned ride
- Seam-sealed construction: protects your feet from rain
- Laminated bridge logo: adds a stylish touch to the design
Pros:
- Traction is excellent for a spikeless shoe
- JL branding is big but beautiful
- Ortholite+ insole provides a lovely, cushioned ride
Cons:
- Run half a size small
- Creasing in the midfoot may cause some discomfort on the first wear
J. Lindeberg's Vent 500 shoes feature a bold design with a chunky sole, mesh upper, and a large JL bridge logo.
The logo blends into the shoe’s silhouette, giving it a modern and structured look. Available in white, blue, black, and green, these shoes boast a sporty silhouette and a trendy chunky sole, aligning with contemporary streetwear. Despite typically disliking big branding, the design team at JL has successfully made it work.
These shoes run small, so consider sizing up. Initially tight around the toe and with a stiff mesh upper, they benefit from being worn around the house before hitting the course.
The panel above the midfoot may crease, causing initial discomfort, but this should ease as the material softens. The Ortholite+ insole offers excellent cushioning and energy return. Pronounced TPU nubs provide effective traction on both dry and moist grounds, ensuring stability throughout the golf swing. Despite the forefoot crease and small sizing, the Vent 500s perform well, particularly in terms of traction.
Stylish, waterproof, and offering excellent traction, the J. Lindeberg Vent 500s are worth trying. Suitable for on and off-course wear, they provide versatility and a cushioned ride. Ensure to try them on for the correct size.

Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG G
Price: £149.95
Key Features
- Visible Max Air: The four-window design allows you to see the inbuilt air pocket beneath the heel
- Synthetic upper: Water-resistant material provides protection from the elements
- Updated traction pattern: gives you improved on-course stability
Pros
- The classic silhouette is ideal for off-course wear
- Excellent arch support
- Easy to style with a wide variety of outfits
Cons
- Certainly better spikeless shoes for stability and traction
The Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG G, inspired by the iconic Air Max 1 sneaker, offers a stylish crossover to the golf course. Worn by pros like Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy, these shoes blend streetwear flair with golf functionality.
The black-on-white colourway with a gum sole stands out, boasting timeless design elements like mesh panels and a visible air bubble.
While visually stunning, they fall short on immediate comfort, feeling narrow and tight. However, they provide good arch support, reducing fatigue during play. Traction is adequate but not exceptional, and stability may be a concern on uneven terrain.
Overall, they excel in style but lag in pure golf performance compared to dedicated golf shoes like the FootJoy Pro/SLX Carbon or ECCO LT1.
If you prioritise looks and versatility for post-game socialising, the Air Max 1 '86 OG G is a solid choice. But for superior on-course performance, other options may be more suitable.

Reebok Club C Golf
Price: $100
Key Features
- Water-resistant leather upper
- Classic sneaker-inspired look
- Lugged spikeless outsole
Pros
- Sturdy upper
- Minimalist platform gives good feedback
- Surpisingly good grip
- Easy to style
Cons
- Long-term comfort is lacking
The latest big release from a brand that's only just re-entered the market (albeit in a big way), Reebok's Club C Golf Shoe captures the aesthetic of the classic '80s sneaker while tweaking a few engineering points to cater to the modern golfer.
The Club C provides an experience pretty typical of what we've come to expect from a retro sneaker re-made for the course. It has a sturdy leather upper, sleek looks and fairly minimal cushioning.
The rubber outsole has also been upgraded with lugs for enhanced traction — an area of the shoe we found performed surprisingly well throughout our test at JCB Golf & Country Club.
Where we found the Club C disappointed somewhat, however, was in the cushioning. While as a traditional trainer it's by no means uncomfortable, compared to some of the more cushioned shoes on this list it could prove tiresome to wear over a full day walking the course.
Even so, at just $100, there are few better looking shoes on the market - making it an enticing option for the golfer who values style as much they do substance.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING GOLF SHOES:
Types of golf shoes
Spikeless golf shoes are becoming very popular and this is because they are designed with comfort and looks in mind. They largely appeal to young golfers who are looking for a modern and athletic look on the golf course. Spikeless golf shoes offer more relief for your feet than spiked models and new technology has enabled spikeless models to become durable.
Materials
As you have probably gathered from our golf shoe reviews above, a multitude of materials go into the construction of golf footwear and this is why you see some big prices on your screen.
Leather is a very popular choice in the game and this is because leather makes golf shoes durable, waterproof and tight-fitting. Leather is more breathable than most materials and leather shoes are a good option for both summer and winter golf. Some golf shoes start at high prices because of their leather construction, but you are investing in a well-constructed and reliable product.
Gore-Tex is a high-quality material that is very thick and water-resistant. When you tee it up in the winter months, you should consider a pair of golf shoes constructed with Gore-Tex because this will mean the product is breathable, waterproof and it will feel significantly warmer than a leather shoe.
Synthetic materials are also used to construct golf shoes. This is a cheaper material than leather which spreads over the top of the shoe to protect the outer surface. It is thinner than leather and in general, shoes made with synthetic materials are cheaper because they are not as protective and breathable.
Laces
You won’t be surprised to hear that traditional laces are the most common types of lacing systems found in golf shoes. They allow the player to tighten or loosen the grip of the shoes around their feet.
However, if you want to experience something different, we would highly recommend using shoes with a proprietary lacing system. They operate by using a mechanical lacing system that provides constant stability. They are very easy to use with just the twist of a circle and your laces become looser or tighter, depending on what you need. Although this type of lacing system is more expensive, they are very practical and comfortable too.
Looking after your golf shoes
You can buy the best golf shoe for your game, but if you neglect them and don’t maintain their qualities over time, their effect could be diminished and you may not get the best out of them.
If you have a pair of spiked golf shoes, make sure you keep an eye on the spikes. If they become too worn, you should replace them which can be done easily with a tool. If you leave your spikes to become small stumps, they can be very hard to replace, which is why spike maintenance is very important.
If you have just played in the rain and your shoes are soaked on the inside, make sure you dry them out when you return home. Maybe warm them up or fill them with paper in order to take the moisture out, but don’t leave this task until your next round because you don’t want wet feet as soon as you step on to the golf course.
If you are concerned about buying shoes that don’t become a good fit on the golf course, you can use a custom-fitting session to make sure you have the right pair for you. It may cost you a little more cash, but the fitters will make sure your feet are a perfect fit in every inch of the shoe.
How do we test golf shoes?
Testing golf shoes is very different to testing golf clubs. There is much less technology involved and fewer mechanics to consider.
However, GolfMagic Equipment Editor Alex Lodge rigorously tests the best golf shoes by wearing them over a number of weeks and months to assess their performance.
Over time, Alex assesses the shoe’s durability, comfort and stability on the golf course. He also judges the aesthetics and design of each model to decide which golfers are suited to a certain type of golf shoe.
Does the colour wear away after some time? Does the lacing in this shoe allow for maximum comfort? Is the underfoot spiking delivering stability?
Alex tests all golf shoes in a number of different weather conditions to get a well-rounded view of how they perform when challenged by dry and wet conditions.
