Summary: Benross Max Speed 2 is the ultimate maximum game improvement iron in the company's family for 2014. Modern oversized heads incorporate corner stability and deep sole weighting which exaggerates a low and deep CG, as well as maximum forgiveness on off-centre hits.

Appearance: Much more chunkier than the Hot Speed 2, to be expected, as this is more of a max game improver iron. Again, nice alignment aid on the face in traditional Benross style. Not for everyone but we can see it appealing to many higher handicappers out there. 3.5 (out of 5)

Feel: The head is ever-present during the swing and relatively stable at impact but some of us experienced a surprisingly crisp feel on contact. Concept 10 Tour Traction grip is very comfortable. Not the most rewarding feel at impact. Not great for feedback on off-centre hits. 6.5 (out of 10)

Performance: The highest launching 6-iron in the test at 32-degree, and unsurprisingly it's easy to get airborne. If anything, it flies probably a little too high for a mid-iron, however, it still travelled further than the Hot Speed 2 before it. Relatively pleasing spin rates and forgiving overall, and it also does a job of keeping shots online and heading toward your target no matter where you hit it off the face. A little more consistent than the previous Benross iron but lacks a little firepower. 6.5 (out of 10)

Verdict: For £60 less than the Hot Speed 2, we'd recommend this set if you're looking to get involved with Benross this year. Value for money given it's easy to launch and has a pleasing offline dispersion pattern. Just lacks a little firepower in comparison to the others. We prefer the feel and looks of other irons out there. 16.5 (out of 25)
