Summary: The Cobra AMP Cell fairway wood features Cobra’s new MyFly Technology and is offered in a 3-4 or 5-7 model, each of which can be adjusted to offer six different loft/trajectory options in four different colours. The AMP Cell 3-wood can be adjusted to 13, 14, 14 Draw, 15, 15 Draw or 16-degrees.
Appearance: Aesthetically, this club looks very cool and is about as trendy as they come, particularly in this flashy orange model as used by Cobra Puma staffer Rickie Fowler. The Cobra logo in the centre helped align with confidence and the big sweet spot is hard to miss. We were also taken by the eye-catching paint splattered graphic Fujikura Fuel shaft. 8
Feel: Fujikura Fuel shaft felt a little light but balanced through the entire swing. Although the sound off the face was a little loud, it was by no means overpowering. Powerful sensation as club crushed ball at impact. 8
Performance: Effortless to get airborne. This fairway appeared much easier to hit and much more impressive than the AMP Cell driver. The adjustable loft sleeve will also prove a big help to optimise overall performance. 9
Verdict: Easy to hit and high launching. Impressive. It also seemed a little more forgiving and easier to hit than the original AMP fairway. I would like to have felt a weightier sensation at impact, however. About average in the distance stakes. 25
Pro Verdict: The orange look doesn’t appeal much but good alignment aid and feel behind it. I like this club’s ability to adjust face and lie angle, perfect for when I’m playing in different weather or to suit me on a particular type of course. Easy to work both ways and suitable distance.
