What should I consider when buying a golf push cart?

While push-style golf trolleys can seem like much of a muchness at first glance, different manufacturers offer vastly different products in some key areas:

Foldability

Golf trolleys are becoming increasingly compact, with the big brands constantly pushing to create products that fold down into smaller and smaller packages with every release. A golf cart can only get so small, however, and it's worth noting that the most compact golf push carts tend to save space when folded down at the expense of storage space and added features.

Budget

While push golf carts don't vary in price as wildly as electric trolleys, there's a big enough difference in price between entry-level and more premium models for budget to be taken into consideration. A standard entry-level push trolley will set you back around £100, with the most expensive models creeping towards the £300 mark and offering features like better storage, auto-open functionality and more lightweight, premium materials like aluminium frames.

Storage

Most golf push carts have some form of storage built-in, with only the very cheapest models providing a simple handle and a set of wheels to get your bag around the course. Different models vary quite a lot in the amount of in-built storage they offer, however, with cheaper units tending to use clip-on accessories like cup and umbrella holders to cut down on costs. More expensive models tend to have more storage built in, with premium storage options like soft-lined phone holders, accessory nets and larger storage tubs built-in.

Weight

While using a push trolley is significantly physically easier than carrying your bag around, their non-powered nature does require an element of physical labour, making it important to take into account how much weight a push cart will add to the total package you need to push around.

The good news is that most modern day push carts are fairly light, ranging between 7-10kg in weight and featuring more advanced wheels and bearings that make pushing them far easier than it once was. If picking up your trolley to store it is a particular concern, however, we recommend investing a little extra for the lightest, strongest model you can afford.
