The Lux Stand range comes in two distinct options. The Lux Stand is a classic Vessel silhouette, offered in a choice of either synthetic leather or DXR (Diamond X-Pattern Reinforced) nylon with carbon fibre legs and genuine leather touchpoints. The Lux Carbon dials up the luxury even further, retaining the same shape compact profile while incorporating a genuine carbon fibre spine to add rigidity without weight.

While both models will set you back more than similarly-sized models from brands like OGIO and Sun Mountain, there's no doubt that Vessel's bags simply look and feel a cut above the rest, with the Lux Stand boasting a choice of either synthetic leather or ripstop nylon finishes with carbon fibre legs, a fantastically stable rotator stand system and genuine leather touch points.

The Lux Stand is also lighter and cheaper than Vessel's flagship Player V model, shedding a little of the excess storage to save on bulk for those who prefer a more minimalist approach.

Our one small gripe with the Lux Stand is that while it's weather-resistant, it's not fully waterproof. But its sealed zippers and high-end materials mean this shouldn't be an issue unless you regularly play in the driving rain.

The Lux Stand looks class, is built to last, and carries beautifully. It's also loaded with smart storage, and has all the little touches golfers actually care about.

The only negative we could pick from this bag was that it wasn't waterproof. An ideal bag for summer months, you may want to look for something that can offer your clubs and valuables a little extra protection from the elements come the winter months.

The highlight of the bag is a modular storage system, with a full-length strip of mollie attachments working alongside separate storage and water pockets that can be attached and remove according to your needs. This makes the bag portable, lightweight and incredibly user friendly to set-up for a range of rounds.

The two-way storage is ample for quicker rounds, capable of comfortably fitting a combination of irons, wedges and a putter, while the in-built front storage system is ample for stashing balls, tees and personal belongings.

Weighing in at just 1.7kg, the Cobra Ultralight Sunday stand bag might just be the lightest stand bag we've ever tested. Incredibly easy to pick up and transport, the bag is an ideal choice for someone who's clocking up a lot of miles on the course. We really loved the grey urban camouflage design but appreciate it may not be to everyone's taste. Thankfully the bag comes in five more traditional block colour designs, including black, blue and grey.

Featuring five pockets to store your belongings, the full-length apparel pocket offers plenty of space to carry an additional garment, while the water bottle holder and customisable ball pocket provide storage for all of your golfing accessories. While perhaps not boasting the same level of storage as other bags on this list, the Ultralight Sunday more than makes up for that with how easy and light it is to carry.

One of the more compact bags we tested, the Ultralight Sunday, only has three club dividers; we would ideally like perhaps one or two more, but that is just our personal preference. 

How do I choose the right size golf stand bag for my needs?

Choosing the right stand bag involves weighing up a few factors:

1. Storage

One of the key things to think about when purchasing a golf stand bag is how much storage it has. If you're the type of golfer who carries a wide variety of accessories and apparel, then making sure you have adequate space for them is of paramount importance. Ranging from five pockets to upwards of nine, making sure you have enough space to keep everything safe and easily accessible should be high on your priority list.

2. Weight

The lighter the bag, the easier it is to carry for long periods of time. If you like to get out and play 36 holes every weekend, then making sure that your bag is light and easy to carry should certainly be high on your priority list. Equally, if you like to use a trolley or buggy, then something on the heavier side with additional storage could be the way to go.

What are the advantages of a waterproof golf stand bag versus a water-resistant one?

If you like to have one bag that can be used all year round, then making sure it has some degree of weather resistance is vital. Most golfers in the northern hemisphere aren't typically blessed with dry winters in the UK, so rain-interrupted golf is, unfortunately, a pretty routine hazard. 

The vast majority of golf bags are constructed out of materials that offer some degree of weather resistance that, in most cases, will suit the needs of golfers for day to day. Some brands, however, also offer sturdier, fully waterproof bags designed for use in wetter climates, with features like sealed zippers, bonded seams and additional hydrophobic layers to keep particularly harsh rain from getting where it doesn't belong.

Can I use a stand bag with a golf cart?
