UK Long Drive Championship returns with exciting INDOOR format
Qualifying for the UK Long Drive Championship began on October 13 across 35 Trackman venues with the Grand Final set to test the players in front of TV cameras.
The UK Long Drive Championship is back with a key difference in 2022 as it will be held completely indoors in conjunction with Trackman.
The event is trying to make golf louder itself, and although it won't feature the prize funds that the LIV Golf Tour offers, there'll be cash prizes for regional winners and those who reach the televised final.
The Long Drive Championship will work with Trackman to set up indoor events. Qualifying began on October 13 using 35 Trackman simulator venues and qualifying is open to all men and women who want to compete with their friends or go for the top of the leaderboard.
The Grand Final is set to be televised with a live audience, adding a significant degree of pressure for the competitors. There will be a series of timed knockout matches to increase the entertainment value.
Open qualifying will use the Trackman 'Hit It!' game as participants buy a set of six balls to hit in a three-minute window. Local qualifiers advance to regional finals before the best hitters reach the final.
"Long Drive is a fantastic sport, which has been yearning for a new platform. By bringing the sport indoors we’re allowing fans to get really close to the action and are creating an experience like no other," said CEO Martin Westney.
"Through the qualifying and regional finals, we’ll be ramping up the excitement and the pressure, heading into the UK Grand Final which will rival the PDC world darts championships for atmosphere and excitement!"
