Whether Brooks Koepka lost a bet with Cameron Smith remains to be seen but the LIV Golf star has shown off his new 'Freedom Flow' mullet look ahead of the Ryder Cup.

Koepka, 33, took to his social media channels with a smile on Friday as he revealed his new look before going on to post an opening 3-under 68 at LIV Golf Chicago.

That sees him lie just two strokes off the pace in a tie for 16th alongside fellow stars Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau.

Sergio Garcia is in a share of the lead following round one thanks to a 5-under 67.

He is joined on that score by Anirban Lahiri, Jediah Morgan, Sebastian Munoz and Louis Oosthuizen.

But back to the original story and it's Koepka's new mullet that has got golf fans talking, especially ahead of the biennial contest in Italy next week.

Koepka, who earned one of Zach Johnson's six captain's picks in the team at the end of last month, is making his fourth straight United States side.

Here's a look at Koepka's new hair cut that he labels 'Freedom Flow':

Here's how some golf fans reacted:

Love it, American hero!

Oh my that's a strong look BK

If you catch yourself doing “achy breaky heart”, you’ve gone too far!

What have you done?!

The guy she told you not worry about

Will Rickie get one too?

Europe might as well not turn up!

I think JT needs to follow suit

Does Jena approve BK?

Koepka isn't the only US Ryder Cup player to opt for a mullet.

Sam Burns, who is making his debut in the team, has also opted for one.

Burns also showed his off on social media:

What do you make of their new mullets? Will we see anyone else rock a mullet at the Ryder Cup? Who will win the Ryder Cup? Share your thoughts and comments over on the GolfMagic social media channels.
