Dustin Johnson will take a commanding four-stroke lead into the final round of The Masters after carding a flawless 7-under 65 on Saturday at Augusta National.

Johnson, 36, finds himself at 16-under par and just two strokes off the 72-hole record Masters total of 18-under par set by Tiger Woods in 1997 and Jordan Spieth in 2015.

The big-hitting American produced some incredible shots on the inward nine, especially at the par-5 2nd when sending a mid-iron to within two feet of the cup for eagle.

Johnson played the first seven holes in 5-under par to push himself ahead of the chasing pack, and he then added birdies at the par-5 13th and 15th to move further clear at the top of the leaderboard.

"I've been playing really well," said Johnson, who arrived at Augusta National off the back of six top-six finishes in his last six starts.

"I know that if I can get myself in the fairway I'm going to give myself a lot of chances."

Should the 23-time PGA Tour winner go on to win The Masters on Sunday it would mark just his second major title to go alongside his 2016 US Open triumph.

Cameron Smith, Sungjae Im and Abraham Ancer are four strokes behind Johnson in second place on 12-under par, with Dylan Frittelli a further stroke back on 11-under par and Justin Thomas on 10-under par.

Jon Rahm, who was playing alongside Johnson, failed to fire for much of the day and slumped to a round of level-par 72 to leave him at 9-under par and seven strokes behind Johnson.

Rahm turned into something of an 18-handicapper on the 8th hole when topping his fairway wood left into the rough, before compounding that mistake by chipping his ball plum centre into the middle of a tree stump and it would lead to a double-bogey seven.
