Golf fans have been reacting to a viral video of a player cheating while marking his ball. But how often do you think this happens during your own tournaments?

A video of a golf cheat moving his ball forwards on the green with his marker has gone viral this weekend, and it's led to a number of amateurs to question how often it happens during their own tournaments?

Yes, the video below might show you a golfer only gaining a minimal advantage, but it's still against the rules at the end of the day.

And yes, you would penalised if you were caught marking your golf ball like this in a tournament.

The video, which was initially posted by overinformed on reddit and then re-shared on Instagram by ziregolf, has most certainly divided opinion on golf social media.

Some consider it's no big deal (which is an awful take in our view), while others think it's not difficult to just adhere to the rules without trying to gain a small edge on the competiton.

The next time you're out on the course, make sure you're on the hunt for golf ball marking cheats such as the one below.

It really isn't that difficult to mark a ball...

Watch the video below for your own take:

Here's what golf fans are saying about it:

"So he gained 1/4 inch on every hole?"

"Who TF cares, it's litteraly 2mm"

"Cheating? Yes, Would it change the score? No."

"Mark O'Neara."

"Bet this happens a lot to be fair."

"Wonder how often this happens in my tournaments."

"People dismissing this or defending this do not understand golf..."

"I'm sure all of you guys play super honest golf."

"Yeah seen this a fair bit actually."

"You can have fun and play by the rules. Integrity is everything."

"Regardless of whether you think a 1/4 inch does or doesn't help, he should be penalized for that, it's repeated and intentional."

Here's a great video on how to properly mark your golf ball:
