Scot John Melville (55) a ten-handicap member at Southerndown Golf Club in Wales, gets his chance to rub shoulders with some of Europe’s leading senior golfers when he competes in the European Senior Masters pro-am at Woburn next month.

The Bridgend golfer was drawn from the ‘electronic hat’ from nearly 2,000 entries to take part in the curtain-raiser for the tournament, courtesy of Hill Billy electric trolleys, who ran a popular competition on Golfmagic.com during July and August.

"That’s fantastic news," said John, born in Fife and now managing director of a medical equipment business
in Cardiff.

"I’m really looking forward to it. I learned my golf at Leven and Lundin Links and now play at Southerndown, which is an excellent cliff-top course overlooking Bristol Channel and featuring high winds and lots of gorse," said John - quite a change from the classic heathland course he’ll discover at Woburn’s Duke’s course.

Dave Spilsbury – trolley winner

Winner of the runner-up prize – a Hilly Billy Compact Plus electric trolley – is Dave Spilsbury from London SW18

"That’s excellent news," said Dave (37), a member of Wimbledon Common Golf Club, where he has a 16 handicap.

"I have been playing golf for about four years and have
been considering purchasing a powered trolley, as I have had some back problems. I put the expense off for now so this is a welcome surprise," he said.

Winners of ten pairs of tickets for the European Senior Masters were: Michael Pearce, Didcot; Ray Graham, Milton Keynes; Tony Smorthit, Waltham Cross; Matthew Reed, Marlborough;
Tom Roberts, Whitnash; David Quick, Romford; Brian Phillips, Burton on Trent; Rodney Cusack, Newbury; Mike Lamb, Beverley; David Whitbread, Borrowash, Derby.
