PGA Tour makes announcement regarding final round tee times at Rocket Classic

The PGA Tour has confirmed changes to the final round schedule of the Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club, with Sunday’s tee times moved forward slightly in an attempt to avoid forecast storms and heavy rain in the Michigan area.

The final round will now begin at approximately 10:45 a.m. ET, with groups going out in three-balls from both the first and 10th tees. 

Providing there are no interruptions, the final three-ball of the final round will tee off at 12:45 p.m. ET as officials look to get the entire field completed before the worst of the weather arrives.

The PGA Tour announced the update during the third round of the tournament, which was still in progress at the time of the announcement.

A statement from the Tour said: “Due to forecasted storms and rain overnight and into Sunday morning, tee times for the final round of the Rocket Classic will run from approximately 10:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. ET in groups of three from Nos. 1 and 10.”

Among the players in contention heading into the final round are Michael Brennan, Rasmus Hojgaard, Cameron Young, Michael Kim, Davis Riley, Chris Kirk, Luke Clanton, Kristoffer Ventura, Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Cantlay and Si Woo Kim.

The Rocket Classic marks the second-last tournament ahead of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Next week's Wyndham Championship marks the final regular season event before the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings compete in the first leg of the playoffs. 

The top 70 in the standings after the Wyndham Championship will compete at the FedEx St Jude Championship,

Then the top 50 players in the standings will then head to the following week's BMW Championship, with the top 30 on the list after that advancing to the season-ending Tour Championship.
