Homes to be built on golf course
Another golf course to be reshaped to make way for new homes
INGOL GOLF CLUB is the latest golfing venue to be affected by residential planning, as 175 homes are set to be built.
Northern Trust's house builder, Rowland Homes, who had a 550 homes proposal turned down two years ago, invited residents to a public exhibition in which the new plans were strongly opposed.
The business that are currently leasing the golf course have kept quiet on the matter, with some people concerned that they knew about the plans all along.
One couple who have lived nearby for over 11 years said: “It’s just a stepping stone from what they planned years ago to start to build on the whole of the golf course.
While Chairman of the Ingol Golf Village Residents Association, Bruce Ellison said: “People wanted the area to come back as a golf course so we’re fully opposed to the building on here.
“People are outraged, they are 100% against it.
"It will be an impact on everybody, not just people directly near the golf course but on everybody in the North West of Preston, because the infrastructure is just not there to support it.
“175 houses, as far as we’re concerned, would only be the thin end of the wedge so we have to stop it before it goes any further.”
It was revealed this month that despite housing estates forcing golf clubs to close, like Mount Oswald Golf Club in Durham, golf courses take up over twice as much land as homes do in the UK.
