Isenhour wins in Mississippi

Tripp Isenhour won for the first time on the BUY.com tour, the $400,000 BUY.COM Mississippi Gulf Coast Open.

Isenhour parred all of the front nine holes before moving to 8-under with a birdie on the tenth and extended his lead to 9-under to win by two shots and claim the $72,000 first prize.

John Elliott made birdie on the last hole of the day to move to 7-under and take sole possession of second place. R.W. Eaks (69) and Don Reese (72) tied for third, three strokes back, while Brian Kamm (69) and Tim Clark (71) rounded out the top five after finishing at 5-under par.

"My goal this morning was not to focus on scores and not to focus on where I was in the tournament," said Isenhour, who was tied for last Friday among players making the cut. "I wanted to go out and control what I could control, which was my golf ball. And fortunately I got off to a solid start, I made a lot of pars early. I did not make any birdies, but when I made the turn I saw that no one had really made a run at me and that’s kind of when I started thinking about where I was in the position of the tournament."
