The Wales rugby team’s spectacular Grand Slam victory and the build-up to the Ryder Cup at The Celtic Manor in 2010 have helped boost sales of a new golf brand, which puts its emphasis on patriotism.
Asbri Golf, founded by sports accessory designer Eryl Williams, specialises in a range of quality golf gloves, including those sporting a 3D crested flag, corporate logo or club badge.
Ryder Cup Wales 2010 Ltd has ordered promotional gloves and shoe bags bearing its brand for three of its events this year, while the Wales Tourist Board is purchasing patriotic products carrying the Welsh dragon to support its promotional campaign ‘Golf As It Should Be’.
Eryl Williams graduated from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and his business partner Paul Williams, are both keen golfers with six and four handicaps respectively and are already planning to introduce stand bags and shoes to their range.
Paul said: "There’s a tremendous sporting buzz in Wales at the moment. We can feel the excitement though I don’t think many realise quite how big an impact the Ryder Cup will have in Wales."
