The driving range at Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa has undergone a complete refurbishment in partnership with Toptracer.

Formby Hall is currently the first and only golf club on England’s Golf Coast to have a Toptracer driving range installed.

Toptracer enables both complete beginners and experienced golfers to trace and analyse their shots on the driving range in the same way TV broadcasters help golf fans track the shots of golf professionals, on-screen, during tournaments.

A VIP member open evening at Formby Hall officially launched the new facility with a "Driving Challenge" competition running on the night.

The competition - a selection of nine holes at Pebble Beach - was won by David Davies, who took home a custom fit Callaway Rogue ST driver.

Mark Williams, golf manager and head professional at Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa said: "Toptracer has games and modes to suit all ages and skill levels, so you can improve your technique or even try golf for the first time.

"Players can try a mix of fun and skill-based games, compete against friends and family, see their shot trace and get instant data on our interactive game screens. There really is something for everyone.”

The refurbishment includes a brand new AstroTurf floor, full re-wire with LED bay and floodlighting, new bay dividers and a power tee update.

Multiple Toptracer practice and game modes are available including My Practice, Virtual Golf, Driving Challenge, Approach Challenge and Nearest to the Pin.

Each bay has a 21-inch touch screen and ball tracking technology. All shots are captured providing accurate ball flight data and instant statistics, all of which can be stored in the Toptracer app which players are encouraged to download before arrival to access all of the Toptracer features.

Williams added: "Whatever your playing level, we'd love people to come along and try it out. You don't need to be a golf club member and you should download the Toptracer Range app before your visit and make Formby Hall your home range, so your session will sync with the app and allow you to study your results and be part of our community, it's great fun."

There will be a monthly competition for players, with February’s challenge a “Nearest to the Pin” challenge on the 17th hole at Kiawah Island Ocean Course.

The winner will receive a 2022 Taylormade Stealth Driver.

Future monthly challenges will be announced on club socials.
