Jordan Spieth wishes he'd taken "a 7-iron to my ankle" for INFAMOUS decision

Jordan Spieth says he wishes he'd taken "a 7-iron to my ankle" to prevent him from making this infamous PGA Tour decision.

Jordan Spieth wishes he'd taken

In hindsight, Jordan Spieth says he wishes caddie Michael Greller had taken "a 7-iron to my ankle" to prevent him from making a now-infamous PGA Tour decision.

Spieth and his long-time caddie have been one of the most iconic pairings in the history of the sport.

Time and time again, the on-course microphone's pick up Spieth and Greller going back-and-forth as they discuss decisions.

This week, Spieth went on Smylie Kaufman's podcast, the Smylie Show, where he discussed their relationship.

Kaufman, who has one PGA Tour win himself from back in 2015, told Spieth that the "five best words in golf" are "Mikey, this one's on me."

The line is often said by Spieth to Greller right before the 13-time PGA Tour winner overrules his caddie.

"I want to say that I've had that work out for me more than not," Spieth replied. "But it's had its fair share of both sides on that now."

However, there's one moment that Spieth says he wishes Greller had stopped him from making an executive decision.

"The only time I've said that and still thought 'Michael, I think you should have done something different' was on the cliff at Pebble."

If you recall, back in 2022 during the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Spieth infamously risked his life to take his shot on the par-4 8th.

His drive landed on the edge of the cliff, and instead of taking a drop, Spieth opted to stand on the edge and chip onto the green.

Here's the "terrifying" clip:

On Kaufman's podcast, Spieth semi-jokingly added:

"I kind of wish that he'd just took a 7-iron to my ankle. I wish he kicked the side of my knee and I was out for six months with an ACL."

Spieth was successful with his shot, but only enough to make par.

"It's a game and we're entertainers," he added. "I will say that looking back, those are the moments that I remember: the 'Mikey, this one's on me.'"

This week, Spieth and Greller are in Ohio at Muirfield Village Golf Club for the annual Jack Nicklaus-hosted Memorial Tournament.
