The Honda Classic has recieved a major boost with the a number of high-profile PGA Tour stars committing to this year's tournament, which takes place at PGA National from March 18-21.

Last year's event, won by Sungjae Im, fell victim to a scheduling squeeze on the PGA Tour and meant that many of the game's biggest stars missed the tournament.

When the tournament returns to PGA National in a few weeks time, there will be a far more competitive field, with a number of players recently committing to the event in Palm Beach.

Phil Mickelson will play in the Honda Classic for the first time since 2016, while Rickie Fowler - who won the event in 2017 - will also return.

It poses the perfect opportunity for Fowler to earn some much-needed world ranking points as he looks to salvage a spot at The Masters in April and winning the Honda Classic for a second time would automatically seal his place at Augusta.

Mickelson may not be the threat that he once was on the PGA Tour, but the golf legend is a player that Honda Classic representatives are thrilled to have on board, with Lefty still being a favourite amongst the fans.

“Phil is a true legend, a generational player that everybody loves to follow and cheer for,” said executive director Ken Kennerly.

Major winners Adam Scott and Gary Woodland are the latest names to have been added to the list, joining the likes of Brooks Koepka, Daniel Berger, Cameron Smith and rising stars Matthew Wolff and Joaquin Niemann.

Race to Dubai champion Lee Westwood will also be making the trip, whilst European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington also features, having won the event on two occasions, firstly in 2005 and again 10 years later in 2015.

Harrington isn't the only Ryder Cup star to commit to this year's Honda Classic, with Open Champion Shane Lowry, Englishman Ian Poulter, Graeme McDowell and Henrik Stenson also playing.
