US vice captain Stewart Cink makes bizarre claim ahead of Ryder Cup

United States vice captain Stewart Cink believes "there's not going to be a lot of disappointment for not playing" at the Ryder Cup

Cink, 50, thinks the conditons are going to be so hot at Marco Simone in Rome, Italy, that members of Zach Johnson's United States Ryder Cup team will be more than happy to sit things out in the fourballs and foursomes sessions on the Friday and Saturday.

Surely not... it's the Ryder Cup?!

Throw in steep hilly climbs at Marco Simone, which Team USA experienced for the first time on a trip last week, and Cink considers it's going to prove the most demanding of Ryder Cup courses of all time.

Cink, who won the 2009 Open, and Johnson, a two-time major champion, were speaking to the media ahead of this week's Fortinet Championship on the PGA Tour

Cink said:

"It's so hilly, and the temperature could be pretty hot, too, that I think guys are going to be happy to probably rest. There’s not going to be a lot of disappointment for not playing."

Johnson added:

"It’s a brutal walk. Then, like you say, compounding that with heat."

Cink said:

"It’s probably the most physically demanding of any Cup course I’ve ever seen that I’ve been a part of."

Johnson agreed:

"No question. In my time, for sure."

The Ryder Cup starts on Friday September 29.
