PGA Tour winner questions U.S. Presidents Cup decision: "What exactly are we doing here?"

Multiple PGA Tour winner Kevin Kisner has questioned the decision to host the forthcoming Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club.

The biennial contest between Team USA and the Internationals will take place in Chicago, Illinois, from September 24-27.

Team USA, captained by Brandt Snedeker, are widely expected to prevail over Geoff Ogilvy's International side, having won 13 of the previous 15 editions.

However, Kisner believes the Americans could be handing their opponents a significant advantage by staging the event at Medinah, given Ogilvy's involvement in the redesign of the host course.

The recent renovation of Medinah's Course No. 3 was carried out by OCM Golf, the golf-course architecture firm co-founded by the Australian.

"Interesting dynamic for me that we're going to a home location that the International captain was in charge of renovating," Kisner told the latest edition of the Fore Play podcast.

"That to me sends all kinds of alarms, I'm not sure why, but what exactly are we doing? PGA Tour, whoever picked all this, what are we doing here? 

"We are trying to give the home team the most advantage ever. It feels like we're somewhat trying to level the playing field."

Kisner previously served as an assistant to Jim Furyk at the last Presidents Cup in Montreal. 

Snedeker's leadership team this year includes Furyk, Gary Woodland and Webb Simpson. 

Kisner added: "How much insight could the International captain have on playability of the golf course for his team and matchups and all the things that our team will be scrambling to try to get used to the week of, or if they go prior. 

"I'm not sure of the whole schedule lineups. I just find that very interesting. 

"I would be extremely p----- off if I was Brandt Snedeker and the head of Team USA and you're like, 'you've got all these courses to pick and you pick the one that you've announced that the International captain redesigned?'

"That's one of the big points that I'm sure Brandt can't talk about, but I can because I'm not involved."

Huge names snubbed for Presidents Cup

Ogilvy and Snedeker named their six captain's picks on 2 September. 

Snedeker delivered the biggest surprise by selecting 21-year-old Jackson Koivun, who only turned professional in June. 

Although Koivun has already won on the PGA Tour, Snedeker was widely expected to be favouring the likes of J.J. Spaun, Ryan Gerard and Ben Griffin. 

Gerard, Spaun and Griffin were omitted. 

Former U.S. Open champion Spaun did withdraw from the Tour Championship with an injury but Snedeker declined to say whether he would have been included otherwise. 

Snedeker named Chris Gotterup, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Jacob Bridgeman as his five other picks. 

Ogilvy, meanwhile, chose Corey Conners, Nico Echavarria, Nick Taylor, Sungjae Im, Ryo Hisatsune and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. 

The biggest surprise was the absence of former world number one Jason Day. 

Day has battled his fair share of injury problems this season. 

Ogilvy later said he wanted to avoid what transpired at the Ryder Cup last September when Europe's Viktor Hovland was forced to sit out his singles match against Harris English at Bethpage Black.
