"You gonna punch me?" - Kevin Kisner details explosive Presidents Cup confrontation

Kevin Kisner has revealed his heated confrontation with Camilo Villegas during the Presidents Cup spilled over into the locker room.

The American and Colombian came close to a physical confrontation during the biennial clash between the United States and the Internationals at Royal Montreal Golf Club in 2024.

The incident stemmed from an increasingly animated exchange between Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim during the opening day's four-ball session.

Kim made a long birdie putt on the 7th hole and celebrated emphatically, before Scheffler responded in kind after making his own birdie putt.

When Kim drained another long birdie putt on the next, he and Sungjae Im walked towards the next tee before Scheffler and Russell Henley had completed the hole.

Villegas, an International assistant captain, had told his players to move on, a decision that did not sit well with Kisner, who was serving as a U.S. assistant captain.

Kisner made it clear that he felt the actions of the International team were unsporting and disrespectful. 

"Obviously, they have a long history of playing against each other," Kisner explained on the Fore Play podcast.

"Tom made a putt and went nuts, and then Scottie made a putt and went nuts, and kind of like bowed up towards Tom in his direction.

"The next hole, Tom made another long putt, and we had two putts to tie, and Camilo told his team to walk off the green and go to the next hole.

"I was like 50 yards from the green, I just watched it, and then when Scottie and Russ both missed their putts to tie, they walked by me and said, 'what the hell was that? What are they doing, walking off'?

"And I just told them, 'calm down, I got it'."

Kisner then confronted Villegas on the next tee.

He said: "So when they hit off the next tee, I just walked up to Camilo. I was like, 'what are you doing? Like, that was the most unsportsmanlike thing I've seen'."

According to Kisner, Villegas dismissed his concerns.

"And he goes, 'bro, don't worry about us, bro'. 

"And I was like, 'no, I'm gonna worry about 'us' because that's my team you're affecting'. 

"I said, 'if you want to play that way, we can all play that way, or you can just play normally'."

The confrontation did not end with the match, according to Kisner, who said Villegas approached him afterward and continued the exchange.

"Then after the match, he came up to me talking all kinds of trash," Kisner revealed.

"And I just stood right in front of him in his face and stared at him. Everybody on TV saw it, I think.

"What are you gonna do, fight me out here? You gonna punch me?"

The United States went on to beat Kim and Im 3&2, as they swept all five matches on the opening day to take a 5-0 lead in the Presidents Cup.

The United States went on to win the Presidents Cup 18.5-11.5

The 16th edition of the Presidents Cup will be staged at Medinah Country Club in Illinois over 24-27 September. 

Kisner also questioned the decision to choose Medinah as the venue as International captain Geoff Ogilvy was heavily involved in its recent redesign.
