Pro golf's YouTube invasion rarely provides many true nuggets of wisdom, but former world number one Jason Day is one of the exceptions to that rule.

Through the Lads YouTube channel he shares with fellow Aussie Ryan Ruffels and a group of his friends, Day has quickly risen to becoming one of the platform's most unique creators. He's also proven not just an outstanding communicator and teacher, but a goldmine of excellent tips that have an uncanny ability to nail the most common problems faced by everyday players.

The Aussie's latest instruction video tackles the all-too-common issue of inconsistent wedge shots, aiming to give you a toolkit of shot to use when attacking the greens from 100 yards in.

The key, says day, is to build three repeatable 'eight, nine and ten o'clock' shots that you can use to hit consistent metrics of spin, peak height and distance.

"It doesn't matter how far your shots go, it's whether you can produce them consistently time after time," says Day.

Day also shares a trio of simple swing tips you can immediately implement to hit more crisp pitch shots:

  • Narrow your stance: Keeping a narrower stance will force you to swing more controlled to remain in balance
  • Weight distribution: Setting up with a 60/40 split of weight geared towards your front foot will help you
  • Rotate through with your chest: You want to feel like you're really covering the ball. Driving through the ball instead of trying to lift it in the air will keep your flighted shots in control, especially in the wind
