Rory McIlroy uses this classic pre-round putting drill that anyone can do
Take some cues from the Masters champion next time you step out on the practice green.

The 'Around the World' putting drill is a timeless classic for a reason.
Training precision on short putts as well as pressure, it's the perfect loosener before a round and, when used during practice sessions, invaluable for training the solid habits that make the pros so lethal from inside eight feet.
It's a drill of enduring popularity, and one still in use by the very best in the world – including one Rory McIlroy, who was videoed on the practice green at Aronimink doing an altered version of the drill in preparation for the weekend's PGA Championship.
While most players tend to play the drill by setting up balls equidistant from the hole in multiple directions, Rory's modified version sees him set up balls in different directions at one foot intervals, meaning the first putt is from three feet, the next from four, and so on.
The aim behind this is to train both control from multiple short distances while maintaining the consistency and start line accuracy required to sink scoring putts with regularity.
You can also mock up an impromptu points system to ramp up the pressure and mimic the feeling of putting for stableford points out on your actual round.
Give it a try next time you're on the practice green, and you might just find those short putt jitters melting away as a result.
