Spain's Nacho Elvira claimed his third DP World Tour title after Shane Lowry hit the self-destruct button on the 72nd hole of the Dubai Invitational.
Former Open champion Lowry held a one-shot lead heading to the final hole on Sunday at Dubai Creek Resort but found the water with his third shot from a greenside bunker.
Lowry, who holed the putt to ensure Europe retained the Ryder Cup last September, had reached 10-under par but the double-bogey handed Elvira the initiative.
The Spaniard made a clutch birdie at 17 then made a safe par down the last to secure the third title of his career.
Masters champion Rory McIlroy was one of five players tied for the lead midway through the back nine but had to settle for a share of third place alongside Lowry, LIV Golf recruit David Puig and Julien Guerrier.
New Zealand's Daniel Hillier finished solo second on nine-under.
"It means the world," Elvira told Sky Sports. "If you told me on Tuesday that I'd be winning this tournament I'd have never believed you.
"It's a dream come true, especially having the family here. I've always dreamed to have my kids walking up to me with a win and anything that happens after this, nothing compares to this.
"I knew at some point it was going to be difficult, especially with the great players playing in front of me. I somehow managed to make a par on ten, managed somehow to make a par on 11 and I guess I calmed down a little after this and stayed patient.
"To be honest with you, I wasn't nervous until the very last putt - the one-footer I had for the win. I knew what I needed to do, I knew I needed to be patient.
"I think there are so many positives from this week and I couldn't be more happier."
Lowry later admitted his finish was a "disaster".

McIlroy told media that he wasn't focused on winning the tournament as he believed he was too far back.
"I was just trying to piece it together and make some good swings and try to hit a few more fairways, which I did for the most part. Would have been nice to hit the fairway at the last to give myself a chance for birdie there," he said.
"Overall it was a good first week back. I felt like I learned a lot of stuff about my game. I wasn't very sharp, but hopefully I'm a little bit sharper going into next week than I was going into this week, I guess."
McIlroy is back in action next week at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic - the first of five Roles Series events on the DP World Tour's schedule.
"Next week at the Emirates, it's obviously important to get the ball in the fairway and give yourself chances from there," McIlroy said when asked what he needs to work ahead of his next start.
"But yeah, I think that was maybe a little bit of distance control. Felt like I was figuring that out as the week went on but short game and putting felt good, which is a really good sign.
"Just tidy up the ball-striking a little bit, and I'll hopefully be right there next week."
