Players and caddies competing at this week's Abu Dhabi Championship have been issued with emergency evacuation instructions amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.

Notices outlining what to do in the event of an emergency have appeared at Yas Links, raising questions about security arrangements ahead of the first of two DP World Tour playoff events.

The tournament is scheduled to take place this week, with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm among the headline names in the field.

However, preparations have been overshadowed by the ongoing situation in the region, with several high-profile players opting against travelling to the UAE.

Abu Dhabi Championship evacuation notice revealed

Brendan Porath, reporter and head of content at Fried Egg Golf, shared an image of the evacuation notice posted at Yas Links on X.

The instructions explain what players and caddies should do if UAE authorities issue an emergency mobile phone alert while they are on site.

The notice states that play would be suspended immediately, with a prolonged blast of the air horns used to signal a dangerous situation.

Players and caddies would then be required to follow the course evacuation procedures and make their way to the clubhouse.

Tour staff would provide further updates and announcements once players and caddies had reached the clubhouse, with additional information distributed through the player portal.

The instructions also make clear that anyone receiving an alert away from the golf course should follow the relevant guidance issued by UAE authorities.

At the time of writing, the DP World Tour had not issued a separate public statement regarding the notice.

It is important to stress that the instructions appear to form part of precautionary safety arrangements rather than indicate an immediate threat to the tournament or those attending. Nevertheless, their presence highlights the importance of having clear emergency procedures in place during a period of uncertainty across the Middle East.

Several big names missing from Abu Dhabi Championship

McIlroy and Rahm will headline the action at Yas Links, but the tournament has been notable for the number of established players who will not be making the trip.

Robert MacIntyre, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick, Ryan Fox, Min Woo Lee, Si Woo Kim, Ryan Gerard and Ludvig Aberg are among the absentees, having all qualified for the Abu Dhabi event.

MacIntyre's management team previously confirmed to GolfMagic that the Scot would not travel to the Middle East because of the ongoing conflict in the region.

His fellow European Ryder Cup player Matt Fitzpatrick also raised concerns about the situation when speaking to reporters at the BMW PGA Championship in September.

It remains to be seen whether Fitzpatrick will feature at next week's DP World Tour Championship, where he could potentially challenge for another title.

Could the DP World Tour playoffs have been moved?

The security situation has previously prompted discussions about alternative venues for the DP World Tour's end-of-season playoffs.

It's understood the DP World Tour explored contingency options, with Portugal and Spain among the potential destinations considered should the UAE events have been unable to proceed.

DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings previously indicated that preparations were continuing as normal, suggesting the organisation remained committed to staging both tournaments as scheduled.

For now, the Abu Dhabi Championship is set to go ahead at Yas Links before the players head to Dubai for the DP World Tour Championship next week.

With some of Europe's biggest names in action, the stakes remain high. However, the emergency procedures now visible around the venue serve as a reminder that player, caddie and spectator safety will remain the priority throughout the tournament.

How the situation develops over the coming days will undoubtedly be closely monitored by the DP World Tour and those competing in the UAE.
