Rory McIlroy has added the Genesis Scottish Open to his schedule

The reigning Masters champion won the national open in 2023 after conjuring one of the shots of his career at the 72nd hole to edge out home hope Robert MacIntyre.

He will return to The Renaissance Club over 9-12 July in a bid to capture the second Rolex Series event of the 2026 Race to Dubai.

The $9m DP World Tour event will take place a week before McIlroy heads to Royal Birkdale to try and claim his second Open Championship title.

McIlroy last won the Claret Jug in 2014 at Royal Liverpool.

"It's always an honour to compete in a national open," said McIlroy. "And I'm excited to back at the Genesis Scottish Open this summer.

"Winning in 2023 created some great memories, and I'm looking forward to building on my strong performances at The Renaissance Club."

McIlroy produced a brilliant birdie-birdie finish to break MacIntyre's heart in 2023.

He hit a sublime two-iron stringer from 200 yards to set up a decisive birdie.

McIlroy has played three tournaments of the 2025/2026 season.

He shared 14th place at the Australian Open in December and finished third at the Dubai Invitational last month.

Once again, he teed up in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic but struggled to mount a challenge to claim his fifth Dallah Trophy.

The world number two enjoyed a stellar 2025 by completing the career grand slam in memorable fashion at The Masters.

He also lifted two further trophies at Pebble Beach and TPC Sawgrass.

Before helping Europe to Ryder Cup success, McIlroy also won the Irish Open for the second time in his career.

The Genesis Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA Tour.

American Chris Gotterup, who claimed his third PGA Tour title at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January, won for the first time on the DP World Tour when he lifted the Genesis Scottish Open trophy last July.
