Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton to put friendship aside as they battle out LIV Golf Mexico City title
Legion XIII and Ryder Cup teammates Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton get set for final-round showdown at LIV Golf Mexico City.
Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton are ready to put friendship aside as they prepare to go head-to-head in Sunday’s final round of LIV Golf Mexico City.
Rahm will take a two-shot lead into the final day after a four-under 67 moved him to 14-under par, with his Legion XIII teammate Hatton close behind on 12-under following an impressive 66.
But while the leaderboard sets up a blockbuster clash, both players insist little will change — at least outwardly.
"I don't see the dynamic changing a lot, but I can imagine we'll be speaking a little bit less than we would normally just because of the situation we're going to be in," said Rahm.
"But that's just natural coming down the closing stretch, no matter who we play with usually the conversations are very limited, but I don't foresee it changing in how we handle each other."
Hatton was equally clear that once the first tee shot is struck, it’s all business — even against his Legion XIII captain.
"Yes, me and Jon get on very well off the course but when we're on it, we want to beat each other," said Hatton.
"It would be nice to get one over him tomorrow, but we'll both go out there and try our best and we'll both try to win a golf tournament."

It's by no means a two-horse race for victory in Mexico though.
In fact, it's actually a 1-2-3 for Legion XIII atop the leaderboard.
Legion XIII's Tom McKibbin lies in a tie for third alongside Southern Guards' Branden Grace on 11-under par.
A group of five players are then tucked in a further shot back on 10-under par.
Hatton arrives with momentum on his side after a career-best tied-third finish at The Masters, while Rahm is looking to respond after a disappointing tie for 38th at Augusta.
The bond between Rahm and Hatton is clear for all to see, even if it might be a tad different on Sunday in Mexico City.
Rahm and Hatton are not only Legion XIII teammates but also European Ryder Cup teammates too.
They have teamed up for an impressive 4-0-1 record at the biennial contest.
Away from the action this week, uncertainty surrounds LIV Golf’s long-term future following reports that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) may not extend funding of the league beyond 2026.
While unconfirmed, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil has acknowledged the ongoing challenge of sustaining the league.
For now though the focus remains firmly on the fairways of Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico City — where teammates will become rivals, and both Rahm and Hatton appear more than ready for the fight.
With Legion XIII also holding a commanding 15-shot lead in the team event, Sunday could yet deliver a dominant double — but only one of their stars will walk away with the individual title.
