European Ryder Cup reject Adrian Meronk has confirmed he has given up his first-ever PGA Tour card to join the LIV Golf League in 2024.

Meronk, 30, beat Rory McIlroy to the Player of the Year vote on the DP World Tour following a three-victory season in 2023.

But despite a stellar Race to Dubai campaign finishing fourth, which saw him earn his PGA Tour card for the first time, Meronk was controversially snubbed a pick by Luke Donald in the European Ryder Cup team.

Ultimately the decision mattered little in the grand scheme of things as Europe ran out five-point victors over Zach Johnson's United States side in Rome, however, it was a bitter blow for Meronk who believed he had done more than enough to warrant a place in the side for the first time in his career.

Meronk even won the Italian Open earlier in the season, which was held on the Ryder Cup course, Marco Simone.

"I just stopped listening," Meronk said when Donald phoned him with the bad news last September.

Meronk would have become the first-ever Pole to compete in the Ryder Cup had he been selected, something that still irks him and his team today.

While it is understood Meronk wishes to keep hold of his DP World Tour membership moving forwards, the giant Pole today confirmed he is joining the Saudi-bankrolled LIV Golf League ahead of its 2024 season that gets underway this week in Mexico.

One of the main reasons for Meronk joining LIV Golf was that it allows him to spend more time with his family and friends.

He also explained that while on LIV Golf, he intends to keep supporting the next generation of golf in his native Poland.

Meronk will now join up with two-time major champion Martin Kaymer and his Cleeks GC, which also comprises Richard Bland and new signing Kalle Samooja who earned his spot after winning the LIV Promotions event at the back end of 2023.

Speaking to LIV Golf ahead of his season debut at Mayakoba this week, Meronk said:

"I’m really looking forward to the new challenge and next chapter of my career as I team up with Martin and the Cleeks.
"While I appreciate this decision didn’t come easy, joining LIV Golf is a very special moment for my career.
"The 2023 season made me feel that despite all of my successes, 287 days a year which I spent away from home is too many.
"The LIV schedule gives me more time with my loved ones and more space to work on every aspect of my game. While on LIV, I will remain passionately dedicated to supporting the next generation of golf in Poland."

LIV Golf has also confirmed today that Lucas Herbert is joining Cameron Smith's Ripper GC, albeit the news had already been leaked.

Herbert said of joining LIV Golf:

"I’m very excited to team up with Cam on the all-Aussie Ripper GC squad this season. This is an incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to begin this part of my career.
"I’m looking forward to teeing it up this week in Mayakoba and of course playing in front of our home country crowd in Adelaide in a few months."

The signatures of Meronk and Herbert to LIV Golf come 24 hours after it was confirmed Tyrrell Hatton was making a shock move to join Jon Rahm's new Legion XIII team, which also comprises Kieran Vincent and amateur Caleb Surratt.
