Tyrrell Hatton makes his feelings on LIV Golf crystal clear with party hole song choice
Tyrrell Hatton chose enter LIV Golf's party hole at The Club at Chatham Hills to Queen's "I want to break free".
England's Tyrrell Hatton reportedly bragged to other players in the LIV Golf League his walk-on song choice at their party hole during the opening round of their season finale was "intentional" and he plans to quit the breakaway tour.
LIV Golf faces an uncertain future after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund confirmed in April it will no longer bankroll the venture beyond the 2026 season.
The league say they have found an alternative investor to take LIV forward without PIF funding but face a race against time to complete the transaction, with a reported deadline of 1 September.
According to CEO Scott O'Neil, the players also have to throw their support behind the league.
But whether he has that support remains to be seen.
Spain's Jon Rahm is widely expected to leave LIV, with the two-time major champion reportedly unenthused by the prospect of an equity offer and also having to deal with another potential stand-off with the DP World Tour.
And he could be joined Hatton.
Like Rahm, Hatton joined LIV for the 2024 campaign but, according to FlushingIt, has decided that he will quit LIV Golf.
The 34-year-old, who played a starring role alongside Rahm in last September's European Ryder Cup victory at Bethpage Black, walked out to the par-3 12th to Queen's "I Want to Break Free".
FlushingIt reported that Hatton reportedly bragged to other players that it was "intentional" and will play a full season on the DP World Tour in 2027.
"Tyrrell Hatton played 'I want to break free' by Queen as his walk on song at the party hole at LIV Golf Indianapolis yesterday. According to reports from the ground from PJ Clarke and Joseph La Magna, he bragged about it to other players in the locker room that it was intentional. Multiple well placed sources have told me they expect Tyrrell Hatton to leave the league after the 2026 season concludes and play a full season on the DP World Tour in 2027. - FlushingIt
Hatton wasn't alone in making what appeared to be an indication of future plans.
His Legion XIII teammate, Ireland's Tom McKibbin, opted for "Breaking Free" from High School Musical.
McKibbin became a surprise addition to LIV Golf in 2025.
The youngster, who is close with Rory McIlroy, had just earned his first PGA Tour card when LIV came calling.
McIlroy later told of how he tried to talk his mentee out of making the switch.
"Personally for me it would be a little disappointing if it were to happen," McIlroy said before the move was made official.
"But I made it perfectly clear: I am not going to stand your way if you need to make the decision you feel like you need to make for yourself.
"At the same time, I feel like he's giving up a lot to not really benefit that much."
Laurie Canter leads LIV Golf Indianapolis.
The Englishman fired an 8-under 62 on day one. Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, Sergio Garcia and Bryson DeChambeau are in hot pursuit.
A downbeat DeChambeau said after the opening round that LIV Golf has "a lot going against it" to secure its long-term future but hopes the league can have "one more shot" to make it a success.
