Chevron Championship: How much Nelly Korda and others earned at ladies first major of season

Nelly Korda captures her third career major title, and pockets a record Chevron Championship first prize in the process.

The first women’s major of the season, the Chevron Championship at Memorial Park in Houston, delivered both dominant golf and a record-breaking purse.

Nelly Korda returned to world number one in style, cruising to a five-shot victory and claiming the third major title of her career. Always in control, the 27-year-old American signed for a final-round 70 to finish at 18-under par, marking her second win of the season in the process.

Korda becomes just the third player in LPGA history to open a season with five straight finishes of tied second or better.

The only others to achieve this remarkable run were Karrie Webb in 2000 and Annika Sorenstam in 2001 — both of whom went on to claim major titles in those same seasons.

Korda's win at Memorial Park GC marks the 17th LPGA title of her career.

Before turning 28, only six American players had reached that milestone: Patty Berg, Louise Suggs, Betsy Rawls, Mickey Wright, Kathy Whitworth and Amy Alcott. She now joins that elite group as the seventh.

Record Chevron prize money

Tournament organisers and the LPGA Tour raised the total purse to $9 million — up $1 million year-on-year and nearly $6 million higher than when Chevron took over as title sponsor in 2022.

Korda banked a record $1.35 million for winning the 2026 Chevron Championship.

She becomes the first two-time winner of the Chevron since Brittany Lincicome achieved the feat in 2015.

The growth in prize money at the Chevron Championship (then called the Colgate-Dinah Shore Winner's Circle) is striking.

When Jane Blalock won the inaugural edition, she earned $20,050 from a $110,000 purse — roughly what a 17th-place finisher receives today.

By 1983, when the event became a major, Amy Alcott collected $55,000 for victory.

Among the five LPGA majors, the Chevron Championship still sits just behind the biggest paydays.

The U.S. Women’s Open and KPMG Women’s PGA Championship offered $12 million purses in 2025, with the AIG Women’s Open at $9.75 million and the Evian Championship at $8 million.

Korda led after every round at the 2026 Chevron Championship and never looked threatened, finishing five shots clear of Ruoning Yin and Patty Tavatanakit at 13-under.
