Golf Saudi makes significant announcement for 2027

Golf Saudi has announced a significant new commitment to women’s golf, with The Championship set to become a co-sanctioned LPGA and Ladies European Tour event from 2027.

The UK-based tournament will move to a new date of 19-25 July 2027 and carry a $4 million prize fund, placing it among the more lucrative events on the women’s professional golf calendar.

The announcement represents the next stage of Golf Saudi’s investment in the women’s game, which began in 2020 through its partnership with the Ladies European Tour.

The Championship, which has been staged in London since 2021, will now have a place on both the LPGA Tour and LET schedules, bringing players from the two tours together for the event.

Golf Saudi has also confirmed a new multi-year partnership with the LET Order of Merit, extending its involvement beyond individual tournaments and providing season-long support for players competing across the European circuit.

Noah Alireza, CEO of Golf Saudi, said the organisation's strategy was focused on developing the sport at both professional and grassroots level.

“Our approach to women's golf is built around the growth of the game in the Kingdom – it is the foundation of everything we do,” Alireza said.

Golf Saudi says more than 15,000 people have signed up for golf lessons through events and initiatives across Saudi Arabia, while more than 4,000 remain on waiting lists. More than a third of those waiting are women.

The organisation is now targeting growth from around 4,500 registered golfers to more than 30,000 within five years, with academies and a new LPGA Professionals programme forming part of its development plans.

Abeer AlJohani, Vice President of the Saudi Golf Federation, said the ambition was to create opportunities for women and girls beyond simply playing the sport.

“Our ambition is for Saudi women and girls to see a future in golf – as players, coaches, and leaders,” she said.

The 2027 edition of The Championship will follow the latest staging of the event in London, which was won by 17-year-old Anna Huang.

The LPGA and LET have both welcomed Golf Saudi’s continued investment, with the new structure intended to provide opportunities for players across the full season while supporting the wider development of women's golf.

Golf Saudi's PIF Global Series will conclude at the end of the 2026 season, having delivered 29 tournaments across three continents since its launch in 2021.

From 2027, The Championship will become the central focus of Golf Saudi’s tournament investment in women’s golf, alongside its season-long LET partnership and grassroots programmes in Saudi Arabia.
