Eight big names to miss the cut at Farmers Insurance Open

The PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open will continue over the weekend without several big names.

The Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines continues this weekend.

After 36 holes, England's Justin Rose is in the driving seat after carving out a comfortable four-shot lead in San Diego.

The European Ryder Cup star, now 45, sits atop the leaderboard on 17-under par after firing a seven-under 65 on Friday to beat the 36-hole scoring record by two strokes.

The chasing pack includes Ireland's Seamus Power, America's Joel Dahmen and South Korea's Si Woo Kim.

Several big names have exited the PGA Tour event at the halfway stage.

Let's take a look...

Xander Schauffele -2

Schauffele came into the Farmers Insurance Open having made 72 consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour.

The record stretched back to the 2022 Masters.

But this week Schauffele missed the cut by one shot.

Ludvig Aberg +6

The Swede came perilously close to carding his worst-ever round on the PGA Tour on Friday and, in truth, was fortunate to break 80.

Another forgettable 18 holes on the North Course means Aberg will need to re-group fast ahead of the first signature event in a few weeks' time at Pebble Beach.

Billy Horschel +5

Horschel was sidelined for five months in 2025 after undergoing surgery on his right hip.

He missed three of the four major championships and returned in September at the BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour.

Horschel carded a 74 on Friday and left himself too much to do.

Marco Penge +4

Marco Penge was supposed to make his first start on the PGA Tour last week but withdrew from The American Express after struggling to overcome illness that affected him during the playoffs on the DP World Tour last season.

Penge, who recently signed with PXG after leaving Mizuno, struggled on the greens this week and lost nearly three strokes against the field.

Max Homa +1

Max Homa endured a miserable campaign last year and had it not been for his victory at the Genesis Invitational in 2024 would've lost his fully exempt status.

Over the winter, Homa re-united with swing coach Mark Blackburn and posted a top-30 finish last week at The American Express.

A missed cut this week will no doubt infuriate the American.

Patrick Cantlay -2

Cantlay began his season with a positive performance last week at The American Express by finishing in the top 20.

But rounds of 72 and 70 were not enough to extend his stay.

Will Zalatoris +1

The American has been plagued by a persistent lower back injury over the last two years.

Last week at The American Express, Zalatoris made his first start on the PGA Tour in more than six months.

He played well, finishing in a share of 18th, but didn't do enough this week.

J.J. Spaun E

It has been a slow start to the season for the 2024 U.S. Open champion.
