The top 50 in the FedEx Cup head to the second stage of the Playoffs at the BMW Championship this week, and I think there's plenty of decent value to be found away from the front two in the market.

Scottie Scheffler maintained his lead in his FedEx Cup title defence after finishing tied third at the FedEx St Jude Championship last week, finishing one shot out of a playoff that saw Justin Rose go on to defeat JJ Spaun and capture a 12th career title on the PGA Tour

Scheffler will be somewhat disappointed with his performance late on the back nine Sunday having reached the top of the board around the turn, but his game remains hot and he is very much the man to beat once again this week.

But at low odds of 5/2, he's not exactly much of a tip for you...

Rory McIlroy returns to action having taken the last few weeks off following his top-10 finish at The Open on home turf at Royal Portrush, and he's another that will no doubt fancy his chance of registering a fourth title of the season, especially on a course measuring over 7,500 yards that should reward bombs off the tee.

McIlroy is available at best odds of 13/2, which could look value come Sunday if he does bring his A-game to Maryland, but for me I'm going to look past the top two in the market and try help find you some decent each-way value at the BMW Championship

US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley defends his title, albeit on a completely different golf course, and while he will be eager to prove to himself and others that he deserves a place on his own team, a number of Americans will be looking to throw their hats into the ring for one of his six picks.

One of those players on the outside looking in right now is a strong fancy of mine this week, especially given he won last time out at Caves Villey GC.

As always, please gamble responsibly.

Right, here are my three E/W picks...

Patrick Cantlay
Patrick Cantlay

Outright Pick:

Patrick Cantlay

Best Price:

22/1 (e/w 1/4 1-5)

Last 3 Starts On Tour:

32 - MC - 9

Last 3 Results at BMW:

1 - 15 - 13

Last Result at Caves Valley (2021):

Scheffler and McIlroy might be the two players to beat this week but I think if one man is going to give them a scare then it will be two-time BMW Championship winner Patrick Cantlay, who showed signs of a resurgence last week.

Cantlay won this tournament in back to back seasons in 2021 and 2022, the latter which unthinkably remains his last and eighth victory on the PGA Tour.

Pleasingly ahead of this week, Cantlay won at Caves Valley when it hosted the BMW Championship for the only previous time in 2021.

He finished the week with an impressive 27-under par total and beat Bryson DeChambeau in a playoff.

Cantlay has not been at his best at all the past couple of seasons, testament to him slipping all the way down to 22nd in the world rankings right now.

But there have been moments during this season that remind us he is still one of the best players in the world with three top- five finishes in 2025.

Cantlay closed out the FedEx St Jude last week with steady rounds of 67, 66 and 68 to sneak into the top 10.

I always like backing a player displaying both course form and current form, and I think Cantlay fits the bill at the BMW - at least at those with sensible double digit prices.

Cantlay will also not only want to end a three-year winless spell on the PGA Tour this week but also ensure he does enough to earn one of Keegan Bradley's six captain's picks on the US Ryder Cup team.

He's on the outside looking in right now at 15th in the US Ryder Cup standings.

Given his relationship with Xander Schauffele, who is assured of a place in the team, along with his Ryder Cup experience, you have to believe Cantlay will be on the plane to New York next month.

Cantlay at best odds of 22/1 for five places looks solid each-way value at the BMW Championship.

Ludvig Aberg
Ludvig Aberg

Outright Pick:

Ludvig Aberg

Best Price:

25/1 (e/w 1/4 1-5)

Last 3 Starts On Tour:

8 - 23 -9

Last Result at BMW:

Last Result at Caves Valley (2021):

Ludvig Aberg is trending for a win after two top-10s in his last three starts on the PGA Tour.

Aberg has only played in the BMW once before but that heralded an impressive second-place finish behind Bradley, albeit on a different course last season.

You would anticipate Aberg has already banked one of Donald's six picks on the Ryder Cup team, but a victory here will leave nothing to chance.

The talented Swede should enjoy the 7,500-yard test this week that will reward players who rip it off the tee.

Long driving and hot putting will be the order of play at Caves Valley.

The putter behaved well enough for Aberg last week, especially in his last round where ranked 14th for strokes gained.

He carded three steady rounds of 67 in amongst a third-round 70 en route to a tie for ninth last week.

Aberg strikes me as someone who is due a third PGA Tour title, and there's every reason to believe it could be this week.

He's great each-way value at 25/1.

Cameron Young

Outright Pick:

Cameron Young

Best Price:

33/1 (e/w 1/4 1-5)

Last 3 Starts On Tour:

MC - 1 -5

Last 3 Results at BMW:

23 - 15 - 43

Last Result at Caves Valley (2021):

I've always said when Cameron Young wins his first PGA Tour event, which he did two weeks ago with a runaway victory at the Wyndham, that he will get on a heater, and I think that will remain the case.

Young surged through the field late at the FedEx St Jude on Sunday with a scorching 64 to finish the week solo fifth.

Vibes are high for him right now and he typically plays well on low-scoring golf courses, which will be the case at Caves Valley where 27-under par won last time out in 2021.

Young is 14th in the US Ryder Cup standings, but another strong performance this week will guarantee him of a pick. I think he's already done enough if truth be told.

The putter, which has often held him back from the winning line, looks to be warming up all the time and that can only fuel confidence levels.

Young ranked second for SG Putting and also for driving distance in the final round at FedEx St Jude - two stats that will be vital this week.

Young never played here in 2021 but I'm not fussed about that.

At best odds of 33/1, I think Young looks strong each-way value indeed.
