Collin Morikawa has been forced to withdraw from the Netflix Cup at the final hour and he has been replaced in the lineup by PGA Tour star Tony Finau.

The first-ever Netflix Cup will take place at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas and it will be contested between four PGA Tour players and four F1 drivers.

PGA Tour players Max HomaJustin ThomasRickie Fowler and Tony Finau will join Lando Norris, Alex Albon, Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly in the first-ever Netflix Cup.

Morikawa, 26, was due to be competing alongside Gasly but he unfortunately injured his back in the gym on Monday.

Finau, 34, has stepped in to take his place.

Morikawa took to his social media platforms to post a note of absence:

"I'm very disappointed to say that I've had to withdraw from today's Netflix Cup as I tweaked my back while at the gym earlier this week.
"I've been so excited about this for a long time but I have to prioritize my health going into next season.
"I'll still be onsite, rooting for Pierre and Tony as they make their run for the Cup."

Two-time major champion Morikawa won his last competitive start on the PGA Tour at the ZOZO Championship.

He will also be part of the new TGL

Interestingly, six-time PGA Tour winner Finau has been heavily linked on social media with a move away from the PGA Tour to join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League in 2024.

That has primarily been a result of him not taking part in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's new tech-infused golf league that starts up in two months time.

But given Finau has just stepped forward to compete in the Netflix Cup, it would more than likely put an end to those rumours.

All of the PGA Tour players competing in the Netflix Cup took part in the streaming platform's new 'Full Swing' docu-series, and so did all four F1 drivers in Netflix's popular 'Drive to Survive' series.

The Netflix Cup is taking place just days before the 2023 F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The event will be broadcast live on Netflix and then be available on demand the next day.

The Netflix Cup will take place on Tuesday November 14 at 3pm Pacific Time (6pm Eastern Time).

That is 11pm for UK fans.
