Tony Finau Biography
Tony Finau is an American professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour.
Finau was born on 14 September 1989 to Kelepi Finau and Ravena Finau. He was named Milton Pouha Finau but is nicknamed Tony and Big Tone.
He is the third oldest of seven siblings, including four brothers and two sisters.
Finau - who is of Tongan and Samoan descent - grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He played a number of different sports growing up. At 6ft 4ins, he was particularly interested in playing basketball and even went to college on a scholarship playing the sport.
Finau turned professional in 2007. It wasn't until the 2014-2015 season that he made his PGA Tour debut after earning his card after playing on the PGA Tour Canada and Web.Com Tour, which is now known as the Korn Ferry Tour.
The American captured his maiden PGA Tour victory in 2016 at the Puerto Rico Open in a sudden death playoff.
As of November 2022, Finau had won five times on the PGA Tour. In total, he has $33,362,311 in career earnings.
Finau also finished 10th in the PGA Tour's 2022 Player Impact Program, earning a cheque for $5m.
Finau is yet to win a major championship. His best finish in his career thus far came at the 2020 PGA Championship where he finished T-4.
He has also represented the U.S. at the 2019 and 2022 Presidents Cup and the 2018 and 2020 Ryder Cup.
Outside of golf, Finau is involved in a huge amount of charitable work, particularly with his foundation which is aimed at inspiring youth.
Finau is married to Alayna Galea’i-Finau. The couple have five children. The family are all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Among his interests include cooking food. He has said in interviews if he were not a golfer he would be a chef.
His favourite sports teams are the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Cowboys, Utah Utes and USC Trojans.
Finau's net worth in 2022 was reported to be in the region of $13m, though this was before the PIP results.
He has a long-term clothing deal Nike and is a PING staff player.
