Junior PGA R3 Leaderboard: Charlie Woods firmly in contention for Junior Ryder Cup spot

Junior PGA Championship Live: Tiger Woods' son Charlie Woods fires nine birdies for the second day running to move into a tie for second with 18 holes to play.

Charlie Woods made nine birdies for the second day running in the third round of the Junior PGA Championship at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in Indiana.

Woods, 16, finds himself in a tie for second on 12-under par after a brilliant 5-under 66 on Thursday.

Lunden Esterline is running away with the tournament with 18 holes to play on 19-under par.

Esterline, who has impressively made just one bogey so far all week, matched Woods' third round of 66.

Woods, son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, is not only seeking a second title of the season, but if he can finish inside the top two at the Junior PGA on Friday then he will automatically qualify for the Junior Ryder Cup for the first time in his career.

Here's how we stand heading into Friday's final round:

Birdie on 18

Woods -12 (F)

Just like day two, Charlie makes NINE birdies on day three!

Charlie sends home a five footer for birdie on the par-4 18th for a brilliant round of 5-under 66.

He's now up to 12-under par and in a tie for second.

Woods is seven shots behind runaway leader Esterline.

The top two on the board come the end of tomorrow's final round will earn spots on the US Junior Ryder Cup team in September.

Woods -11 (16)

It's a first par for Charlie since the 8th, but not a great one since it was on the par-5 16th.

No damage done though as Charlie remains 11-under par in T3.

Birdie for Charlie

C. Woods -11 (15)

Pure class from Charlie.

He sends another dart of an approach shot into six feet and buries the putt in the heart for an eighth birdie of the round.

Charlie is now 4-under par for the day and up to 11-under par in T3.

He's just one shot behind second place, which of course secures a spot in the US Junior Ryder Cup team this September.

What a moment that would be for the Woods family should it happen.

Here's the birdie on 15:

Dad would be proud.

After a bogey at 9, Woods instantly bounces back with a brilliant birdie on the par-4 10th.

One back of second and six behind leader Esterline, who has played eight holes.

Charlie playing well in R3

Welcome to live R3 updates of the Junior PGA where Tiger Woods' son Charlie Woods is in contention for not only the title but also earning an elusive spot in the US Junior Ryder Cup team.

Charlie is off to a solid start on day three.

He opened with two birdies on 1 and 2 and then gave one back on 4.

But he has bounced back well with back to back birdies on 6 and 7 to move to 3-under on the round and to double digits for the tournament on 10-under par.

Charlie is currently in T4 and six shots behind the runaway leader Lunden Esterline.

William Chang and Chase Yenser are in T2 on 11-under par.

The leaders are about to head into the back nine.
