Marco Penge has withdrawn from this week’s ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic due to health reasons, just days before the second major championship of the season.

The 27-year-old Englishman confirmed the news on Wednesday in a brief statement, stressing the issue is “nothing serious” as he focuses on being fully fit for next week’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

Penge did not reveal further details about the problem but said his priority is recovering in time for the year’s second major.

“Unfortunately I have had to WD from this week at Myrtle Beach due to health reasons,” Penge posted on X. “It's nothing serious i just need to get fully fit for next week at the PGA Championship.”

The 39th-ranked player in the world has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past 12 months.

Penge secured his PGA Tour card for the 2026 season after a hugely successful campaign on the DP World Tour in 2025, where he claimed three victories in the space of six months and ran Rory McIlroy close to the Race to Dubai.

He also impressed on his Masters debut last month, making the cut at Augusta National before finishing in a tie for 49th.

However, his rookie season on the PGA Tour has been mixed so far. Penge has missed five cuts in 11 starts, although he produced a standout performance at the Valspar Championship in March where he finished tied fourth.

Penge will make his sixth major appearance at the PGA Championship at Aronimink next week.

He becomes the sixth player to withdraw from the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic this week.

Andrew Putnam and Austin Smotherman also came out of the field, although both players were promoted into the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow following withdrawals from the PGA Tour signature event.

With the Myrtle Beach field reduced, alternates Troy Merritt and James Hahn were added to complete the tournament line-up at Dunes Golf and Beach Club in South Carolina.

Brooks Koepka headlines the field for the opposite-field PGA Tour event.
