After inclement weather disrupted Thursday’s schedule, the PGA Tour has switched from planned two-balls to three-balls off split tees for the revised second round in an effort to get the tournament back on schedule ahead of the weekend.
The tournament marks the sixth Signature Event of the season, and with it there's another huge $20m prize purse with $3.6m going to the winner.
The 72-man field is headlined by Rory McIlroy, who is making his return to action after becoming just the fourth player in history to successfully defend The Masters last month.
McIlroy is a record four-time winner at Quail Hollow Club.
Other notables in the lineup include Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele, Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Aberg.
World number one Scottie Scheffler elected to bypass the tournament to best prepare at home ahead of his title defence at the PGA Championship next week.
