Rory McIlroy was involved in an amusing moment during the second round of the Players Championship

The Northern Irishman didn't have the best of starts to his round on Friday afternoon having started with a bogey.

But he bounced back immediately, taking advantage of the par-5 second hole at TPC Sawgrass to move back to 7-under.

Then he dropped another shot at the par-3 third hole after he was involved in an hilarious encounter with a frog.

Golf fans were quick to point out on X this was an 'elite branding moment' given his ties to the TGL side Boston Common Golf.

McIlroy missed the green short right and also had to contend with a drain cover between his feet and the ball.

As we join the footage below McIlroy is just about ready to play his second shot from the nasty rough before he notices something isn't right.

"He can't really get relief, which he would love to do here because the lie is not great," the commentator said.

Then laughter ensued as McIlroy realised there was a frog next to his TP5x.

McIlroy's caddie Harry Diamond helped the four-time major champion shoo the frog away.

Perhaps McIlroy didn't take the time to settle himself after the exchange as he hit his second stroke over the pin.

He managed to save a bogey, though, draining a putt from six feet.

Still, he managed to gather himself at the next hole by making his second birdie of the day.
