Only Rory McIlroy himself knows his true net worth, but we can have a good guess at just how much money the golf star has.

At the time of writing, McIlroy has amassed a whopping $80,095,557 in on-course earnings on the PGA Tour

He's also racked up an astonishing $47,434,525 during his career on the European-based DP World Tour

Throw in the fact he's also got lucrative multiyear contracts with TaylorMade and Nike, it's not unreasonable to suggest the Northern Irishman is worth a pretty penny.

Let's try and break it down.

Nike and TaylorMade

A bushy-haired, chubby-cheeked McIlroy reportedly agreed an endorsement contract with Nike in 2013 that was worth between $100-250m.

In 2017, the four-time major champ formally agreed a 10-year extension to that contract.

During the early days of his career, McIlroy was also using Nike clubs, but the brand discontinued making golf equipment in 2017.

That allowed McIlroy to negotiate a contract with TaylorMade, said to be worth in the region of $100m.

McIlroy, along with Tiger Woods, are the two highest-profile staff players with the brand. The Northern Irishman extended his contract with TaylorMade in 2022.

Endorsements

McIlroy, as you can imagine, is a heavily endorsed athlete. This is also where he makes another chunk of cash.

It is estimated he makes $40-50m per year through his partners.

Aside from Nike and TaylorMade, the golfer is endorsed by Optum, Omega, Golfpass.

PGA Tour bonuses

The PGA Tour introduced the player impact program (PIP) in 2021. In short, it rewards players with cash for boosting engagement and publicity of the PGA Tour.

It will come as no surprise to you that McIlroy has made some big bucks here.

Tiger Woods proved he still moved the needle in the inaugural PIP, scooping $8m. McIlroy placed third and was given $3.5m.

In 2022, Woods was the top dog again as the PIP was expanded to reward the top 20 players. Woods was given $15m whereas McIlroy finished second, earning $12m.

Investments

In 2022, Rory McIlroy co-founded TMRW Sports alongside Tiger Woods.

TMRW Sports then launched TGL.

McIlroy has also put a bunch of money in other ventures.

In 2019, he set up Symphony Ventures. The primary purpose of the fund was to invest in emerging companies. One of those is fitness tech company Whoop

When McIlroy invested in Whoop, it was worth $1.2bn. The valuation has since grown exponentially.

He's also invested in Future, a one-on-one digital fitness training platform and health companies called LetsGetChecked and Kaia Health

Troon, the largest golf management company, also has McIlroy money.

Formula 1

In October 2023, McIlroy joined the backers of F1 team Alpine.

He was part of a $217m strategic investment into the team led by consortium Otro Capital. Joining McIlroy in that move was boxer Anthony Joshua and footballer Trent Alexander-Arnold.

McIlroy said he was open to the idea of investing into his beloved football team, Manchester United, at some point in the future.

He said: "Sports team ownership used to be limited to private equity, and people who had a ton of money. But now sports stars are becoming more savvy and using their money in the right way."
