Tiger Woods' immediate message to Tom Kim speaks volumes after Scottish Open win
Tom Kim praised both Tiger Woods and Scottie Scheffler for helping him through one of the toughest spells of his career.
Tom Kim has revealed Tiger Woods was the first person to message him after ending his three-year wait for a PGA Tour victory at the Genesis Scottish Open.
The 24-year-old South Korean returned to the winner's circle with an impressive victory at The Renaissance Club on Sunday, collecting his fourth PGA Tour title and a winner's cheque worth more than $1.5 million.
Kim, who closed with a flawless 64 to see out a two-shot victory over Min Woo Lee on 17-under par, was reduced to tears after sealing the win.
Speaking after his triumph, Kim reflected on the difficult period that followed his last win in October 2023 and explained how advice from some of the game's biggest names helped him rediscover his confidence.
While World No.1 Scottie Scheffler has been a consistent source of inspiration, Kim admitted Woods has also played a significant role behind the scenes since the pair became teammates on TGL.
"I think Scottie has been such a great role model for a lot of people," Kim told reporters at The Renaissance Club.
"If you listen to his press conferences, it comes from a lot of self-awareness and a lot of maturity.
"Being on Tiger's team in TGL, I've been able to ask him questions and he's been really helpful a lot of the time."
Kim then revealed the gesture from 15-time major champion Woods that meant the most after finally lifting another trophy.
"This was my first win in three years, and the first person that texted me was Tiger Woods," continued Kim.
"It shows you the person he is and how much he cares."

Kim explained he has made a conscious effort to learn from the game's elite, whether through personal conversations or simply listening to how they approach the sport.
"I've kind of leaned into the best players in the world," he added.
"Even on YouTube, I'm listening to their interviews and paying attention to how they think and speak. When I've asked for advice, they've all been incredibly generous."
Kim also admitted there were plenty of moments during his winless spell when confidence was at a low ebb.
"There were a lot of moments like that," Kim said when asked if there was a particular low point that stood out.
"I've never really gone through that in my career before. Golf is unique and I can't say I won't experience it again.
"But now I know how to deal with those moments. I'll take those experiences with me and keep trying to grow."
After finally ending his lengthy drought, Kim's victory signals a return to form at the perfect time with The Open taking place at Royal Birkdale next week.
