Charlie Woods captures first AJGA title at Team TaylorMade Invitational

Tiger Woods' son Charlie Woods won his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Black in Florida on Wednesday. 

Woods, 16, closed with a final-round 6-under 66 to see out a commanding three-shot victory on 15-under par in Florida. 

The victory will now vault Woods up the AJGA rankings having started the week at 604th.

The son of golf legend Tiger Woods took down some of the country's leading amateurs including No.1-ranked Miles Russell, who last season competed on the PGA Tour. 

He opened with a rollercoaster round of 2-under 70 on Monday before vaulting into contention with a career-low 7-under 65 on Tuesday. 

That saw Woods start the final round one shot behind Luke Colton. 

But Woods raced out the gates early on Wednesday with five birdies on the front nine to move into the outright lead for the first time all week. 

The Benjamin School junior then played holes 11 to 14 in 2-under par to take full command of the tournament. 

He was then afforded the luxury of making pars to the house and even missing a short birdie attempt on 18 en route to a deserved three-shot win and a first title on the AJGA.

Woods was competing in his fifth AJGA tournament. 

Prior to winning the Team TaylorMade Invitational, Charlie's best result was T25 at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in March.
