The 2026 U.S. Amateur begins on Monday at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
One of the greatest amateur championships in the world gets underway this week.
The 2026 U.S. Amateur will be played at the revered Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania from Monday.
A field of 312 players has gathered and will be whittled down over the course of the week until two players remain and duke it out on Sunday over 36 holes for the Havemeyer Trophy.
Twelve months ago, America's Mason Howell took down Jackson Herrington at the Olympic Club in San Francisco to become the third-youngest winner in U.S. Amateur history.
Howell is back to defend his title and is joined by some stellar names. The field features 47 of the top 50 in the Men's World Amateur Rankings.
Miles Russell, 17, has already gained widespread attention and is sure to attract a large crowd.
The Florida teenager, a good friend of Charlie Woods, became the youngest player to make a Korn Ferry Tour cut in 2024, aged 15.
He's also won the Junior Players Championship twice and been crowned AJGA Player of the Year on two occasions.
In June, Russell qualified for his first U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. He made the cut and finished in a tie for 39th.
There will also certainly be some interest in how Luke Poulter, son of Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter, gets on.
Luke Poulter is ranked fifth, behind the aforementioned Russell, Tyler Watts and Preston Stout.
