Scottie Scheffler does something incredible after unruly fan disrupts Nico Echavarria at Presidents Cup

Scottie Scheffler produced a remarkable display of sportsmanship during his Presidents Cup singles match against Nico Echavarria after an American fan shouted out during the International player's backswing on the par-4 14th. 

Scheffler was already 3up when Echavarria addressed his tee shot, only for a spectator to yell "Go Scottie" as he began his swing.

The Colombian made contact but watched his drive fade badly to the right and into trouble.

Echavarria immediately turned towards the crowd and stared at the fan for some 10 seconds.

But Scheffler was also furious.

The World No.1 walked towards the spectator and pointed him out, making it clear that he was unhappy with what had happened.

"There's no place for that," Scheffler was heard saying at the spectator. 

And Scheffler then took his sportsmanship a step further.

According to NBC on-course reporter John Wood, Echavarria was over the green in three shots and faced a 30-foot putt for par.

But after the disruption on the tee, Scheffler gave him the putt.

"Pure touch of class from Scottie Scheffler," Wood said.

"Echavarria was over the green in three, and he had a 30 footer for par, but after that yell back on the tee, Scottie gave him the par from 30 feet.

"Scottie still had a birdie putt to win the hole but he missed that so ended up tying the hole.

"Just a pure touch of class from Scottie Scheffler there."

Brad Faxon was equally stunned by Scheffler's actions.

"Wow, incredible," the NBC commentator said. "Scottie was more upset than Echavarria was."

The gesture was particularly notable given Scheffler was already three holes ahead and had every opportunity to take advantage of his opponent's misfortune.

Instead, he ensured Echavarria wasn't punished for an incident that was completely outside his control.

To further add to the drama, Echavarria chipped in for birdie on the 16th to trim Scheffler's lead. 

But the four-time major champion held his nerve to seal a 2&1 victory, ensuring his remarkable act of generosity did not cost him.

The moment of sportsmanship even left his wife, Meredith, visibly emotional.

Wood revealed during the broadcast that he went over to tell Meredith what Scottie had done on the 14th.

Her response?

"That makes me want to cry," she said. 

It was clearly a reaction of pride in her husband.

After sealing his victory, NBC's Cara Banks asked Scheffler for comment on the gesture but he did not want to elaborate too much. 

"I mean to be honest with you I don't really want to talk about it, there's no real place for that in our game and I think we'll just leave it at that," said Scheffler. 

The United States are attempting to win their 11th consecutive Presidents Cup match against the Internationals at Medinah, with the action still underway.
