Pictures: US President Donald Trump attends day one of 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black

US President Donald Trump arrived at the 2025 Ryder Cup to a chorus of boos and cheers. 

The 79-year-old made an appearance at Bethpage Black shortly after the first morning session of the biennial contest concluded on Friday.  

Luke Donald's European side raced to a 3-1 lead in the foursomes, thanks to inspired performances from Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Ludvig Aberg, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood. 

But you would not have thought the red, white and blue were trailing when Trump appeared shortly approximately 45 minutes after getting off Air Force One. 

US captain Keegan Bradley bowed down to Trump as he walked out to the first tee before appearing to share a joke. 

Surrounded by a heavy security detail, Trump then briefly emerged from a box protected by bulletproof glass to lead chants of "U-S-A" to the 8,000 fans in the grandstand.  

Trump's 17-year-old granddaughter Kai was also by his side. 

The 45th and 47th President of the United States is a huge golf fan. 

Several key security measures were put in place for his arrival. Beyond the usual security at the gates, there was additional screening points around the clubhouse, grandstands and surrounding areas. 

Restricted items included large vaping devices, rangefinders, portable folding chairs and large umbrellas. Laptops and tablets were also barred from the course for one day. 

Trump has an official handicap of 2.8, but his golf skills have long been the source of debate.
