"I've seen enough" - Former PGA Tour winner assesses Jordan Spieth's Masters chances
Former PGA Tour winner turned CBS golf analyst believes Jordan Spieth will be in the mix at next month's Masters Tournament.
Former PGA Tour winner turned turned CBS golf analyst Johnson Wagner believes he has seen enough to be convinced that Jordan Spieth will be among the contenders for the green jacket next month.
The 2026 Masters Tournament begins on 9 April at Augusta National.
Spieth won the major in 2015 aged 21 and endured one of the most shocking meltdowns in Masters history 12 months later by blowing a five-stroke lead with nine holes remaining.
Since winning The Open in 2017, Spieth has struggled to rediscover the form that saw many label him as the next dominant force in the men's game.
He dropped outside of the top 100 in the Official World Golf Ranking and experienced a winless drought that lasted 1,351 days that ended in April 2021 at the Valero Texas Open.
Spieth has struggled with a wrist injury since May 2023, and even required surgery, but now appears to be fully fit.
And given Wagner believes Spieth is ready to end his major drought.
"When you think about certain players, certain venues, the current form doesn’t really matter," Wagner told CBS.
"When you think about Augusta, Jordan Spieth has gone in with varying differences in form and competed really well there.
"I think we're seeing exactly what we need to see out of Jordan.
"He's been consistent, he's been better off the tee, his iron play's been good. I don't think we're seeing the big foul balls.
"If you're looking ahead to next week at Valero Texas Open, it really punishes foul balls, but also rewards short game and imagination.
"So I just want to see him make the cut, be there, be great to see him get in contention, but I don't necessarily need to see Jordan Spieth in the final couple of groups on Sunday to be bullish on him going into Augusta."
Wagner said he would rate Spieth's season so far as B+, even though the American is yet to finish inside the top 10 from seven PGA Tour starts.
His only missed cut came at the WM Phoenix Open, where he backed up an opening 70 with a 75 at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona.
"I think he's ready," Wagner added. "Clearly, his wrist feels a lot better than it did last year at this time.
"He's really comfortable with his swing, and not seeing these crazy rehearsals that we're used to seeing out of him.
"I think finally he's comfortable in what he's working on, and I think he’s playing with a clear mind."
Spieth will be making his 13th Masters appearance in 2026. He has finished inside the top four at Augusta six times, including a runner-up in his tournament debut in 2014 and in 2016.
He has only missed two cuts at Augusta and has a scoring average of 70.98 from 44 rounds played.
