A star-studded group that shares 10 major championship titles between the three of them are set to take on Los Angeles Country Club together for the first two rounds of this week's US Open.

The PGA Tour's Hideki Matsuyama (1 major) will be teeing it up with Rory McIlroy (4 majors) and LIV Golf's Brooks Koepka (5 majors) during round one and two in California.

McIlroy and Koepka make up two of the most dominate players of the past decade in men's professional golf, and the competition between the two of them continues to heat up amid the on-going LIV Golf-PGA Tour saga.

McIlroy, ranked No. 3 in the world, is the star of the PGA Tour and the face of those who stayed 'loyal' to commissioner Jay Monahan.

While Koepka shocked the golf world when shortly after last year's US Open, he was announced as one of LIV Golf's newest members.

The American notably snapped at reporters for throwing a "black cloud" over the major when asked about LIV Golf last year at The Country Club in Massachusetts.

However, since then he's regained his form - becoming the first LIV player to win twice in the history of the league.

Last month he notched another new milestone, as he became the first player to win a major championship as a LIV Golf member when he won the PGA Championship for his fifth major.

It's one more major than McIlroy, who's been searching for his fifth for nearly a decade.

Other notable groups for the first two rounds of the US Open include defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick with LIV Golf's Cameron Smith and newly-turned professional Sam Bennett.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be in a group with two home-crowd favourites in Xander Schauffele and Max Homa, both from California.
