Full Biography
Hideki Matsuyama is a Japanese professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour.
Matsuyama was born on 25 February 1992.
He grew up in Matsuyama, Ehime and was introduced to the game of golf at the age of four by his father.
His favourite player to watch growing up was Tiger Woods and he has said in interviews one of his fondest memories is watching the 1997 Masters.
Matsuyama had a superb amateur career and rose to the World No.1 ranking in 2012.
He turned professional a year later, winning on his second ever start at the 2013 Tsuruya Open on the Japan Golf Tour.
As of December 2022, he has claimed eight victories on the PGA Tour, three on the European Tour and eight on the Japan Golf Tour.
Matsuyama is married to Mei Inui Matsuyama. The couple tied the knot in 2017 and have one child, a daughter, called Kanna.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of his career so far came at the 2021 Masters when he beat the American Will Zalatoris by one stroke at Augusta National.
It meant he was the first Japanese professional golfer to win a major championship.
Matsuyama's caddie Shota Hayafuji removed his hat and bowed to Augusta National in the immediate aftermath of his victory in a truly iconic moment.
As a result of his win, he was awarded the Prime Minister's Award.
Outside of golf, Matsuyama enjoys fishing, watching baseball and playing table tennis.
He currently resides in Sendai.
As of December 2022, Matsuyama had $40,439,137 in career earnings.
His net worth is believed to be in the region of $35m.
Matsuyama is a Srixon staff player.
He was heavily linked with a move to the LIV Golf League but reportedly turned down an offer in the region of $400m.
