Backspin isn't for everyone but it's certainly a common golfing topic. We caught up with PGA Pro Murdo McCorquodale at La Cala Resort to learn the secrets to increasing backspin with a wedge.
Using a 52-degree wedge from 120 yards, Murdo explained his three keys for imparting more backspin on the golf ball.
Nice new wedges with sharp, clean grooves will most certainly help, as too using a new premium golf ball like a TaylorMade TP5 or TP5x.
You also need a nice tight lie, ideally in the fairway to be able to play the shot, too.
When it comes to the setup with a wedge, get the ball in the middle of the stance like normal and try to hit down on the ball, using a lot of zip in the hands. You also want to make sure your turn your body through the shot.
