Portugal’s Troia Resort, home to one of Europe’s top 10 golf courses, is offering UK golfers the perfect respite this autumn with special packages to celebrate the announcement that Portugal has been added to the UK’s ‘safe list’.

The UK government last week announced that people travelling back from Portugal will no longer need to self-isolate for 14 days upon their return, making it the perfect time to experience one of the country’s best courses at Troia, with stay-and-play packages available from just €170 per person, per night.

The spectacular 18-hole championship course, located just an hour from Lisbon on the beautiful sand-skirted Tróia Peninsula on the Atlantic coast, boasts panoramic views of the ocean and Arrábida mountain range and is renowned for its challenging links holes and natural beauty.

Designed by legendary American golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Senior, Troia’s par-72 course stretches 6,317m along the beach and is a stern, enjoyable test for golfers of all abilities, requiring them to play a multitude of shots through a combination of pine trees and indigenous coastal plants – with small, narrow greens and bold bunkering adding drama to the round.

And golfers can enjoy the magnificent course and sunshine feeling completely at ease. The club has brought in every measure to ensure it is as safe as possible and is strictly following all guidelines outlined by the Portuguese authorities to control and prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other possible infections. A thorough cleaning and sanitising regime has been introduced, while social distancing and personal protective equipment is also expected.

The attractive package includes a night’s stay in the stunning four-star Aqualuz Suite Hotel, with two rounds of golf – including a pull trolley and practice balls, early check-in from midday and late check-out until 4pm (subject to availability), free transfer from the hotel to the golf course, a buffet breakfast in the morning and a prizegiving lunch with drinks included in the clubhouse for those looking to add a competitive edge to their group getaway.

Alexandre Barroso, Troia’s golf director, said: “We are extremely excited to welcome golfers from the UK back – one of our core markets. The news is well overdue, which is why we have put together some exclusive packages to celebrate and finally whet the appetite of tourists from the UK with excellent golf and beautiful scenery in a safe environment.

“We are more than prepared in terms of safety measures and are just looking forward to putting a smile back on the UK golfers’ faces and showing them everything Troia has to offer – giving them the holiday they have been longing for.”

Troia’s excellent location is just a 15-minute unique ferry ride from Setúbal city centre, which is filled with a wide range of highly regarded and affordable restaurants, and just a short distance from Comporta – one of the trendiest, and most sought-after, destinations for Europe’s travelling cognoscenti.

Golf breaks to Troia can be booked directly by emailing golf@troiaresort.pt or phoning +351 265 494 024 and quoting ‘UK Golfer’
